The Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum is a must-visit attraction offering underground mine tours, history exhibits, and a crystal cave. Located in the former headquarters of the Copper Queen Consolidated Mining Company, this museum provides an interactive journey into the role of western copper mining towns in America's industrialization. Visitors can explore impressive minerals, artifacts, photographs, and tools from Bisbee's mining era.
Beautiful building, a well-done exhibit space, and a neat gift shop. Only the first floor was open due to constriction so they discounted the price (we missed the gems and minerals).

I have been through the museum twice and two separate occasions, and I plan to go again. From what I can tell, the information presented is accurate. The facilities are well kept. They do a great job preserving the mining equipment on the museum grounds. The exhibits are well done with large print, and thoughtful displays. The gift shop has some nice unique mementos and gifts.

I brought my aging mom, a teenager and two young boys. It was great for all of us! So very interesting and amazing exhibits! Brenda was especially accommodating ji for my mom whose mobility is very limited!

Beautiful exhibits detailing a lot of the history of Bisbee. Gorgeous mineral exhibits. Knowledgeable and entertaining staff. Great gift shop full of educational books. The museum itself is also a part of the history, having been the headquarters for the Phelps-Dodge local copper mining and smelting operations. Well worth the $10 admission!

This is a great museum with a lot of history about the mining town of Bisbee. There are a lot of artifacts and specimens of minerals on display. They have beautiful samples of copper, malachite and azurite on display. They have a nice gift shop too. We enjoyed our visit there and we made a purchase in the gift shop too.

Great place to visit! We were here as part of a photography tour.

Awesome history and beautiful crystals, minerals and more to check out!
Aimee V — Google review
I recommend checking out this museum, especially if you have already done the Queen Mine Tour, there are a lot of displays, pictures and information on the mines of Bisbee, as well as history on Bisbee itself. The second floor has a lot of minerals/rocks on display if you're into geology.
Guillermo V — Google review
Before our visit, we had no idea of Bisbee's pivotal role in the expansion of the West. It's truly astonishing to discover that Bisbee was once among the largest cities in the Western United States. The museum offers a wealth of knowledge, from its in-depth exploration of union-busting efforts and rich mining history to the surprising number of baseball legends who played in the area. What makes the experience even more unique is the passionate storytelling by volunteer guides, many of whom hail from families that have lived in the area for generations. Their personal anecdotes provide insights you won't find anywhere else. Additionally, the museum boasts an impressive collection of mining artifacts, many of which have been returned by the Smithsonian - a testament to their original significance to this community. The gift shop is a treasure trove in itself, stocked with a wide selection of books and memorabilia that celebrate Bisbee's heritage. We wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this remarkable museum.

Historic Bisbee if you love old architecture and cool shops as much as I do you'll be in paradise. It gets crowded so weekdays are better. There's limited places to eat unless you go out of the historic area and into the other areas of Bisbee past the copper mine pit, which I highly suggest you visit. This is an active working mine and the locals are authentic and not commercialized like you see in places like Tombstone. It's worth the drive to get there. Make sure you make arrangements for a place to stay in advance!
Michelle B — Google review
Start your visit to Bisbee here to understand the history and significance of this small town. Excellent, well curated, professional exhibits that tell the story of Bisbee both from the point of view of the mining industry to the lives of the residents. Helpful staff and volunteers!
Christine R — Google review
Fun place to visit and explore the history of the town.
Robert M — Google review
With the landscape and outdoor displays, even the outside of the museum has fabulous asthetics. Inside, there are several creative displays. Many featuring colorful minerals labeled by name, one where a lightbulb can be lit by a crank, and several of the fun old classically creepy miner manequins that take you back to childhood field trips. Upstairs is designed to feel as though you are entering a mine shaft with just the right lighting and space. The museum is not palatial and has the right amount of exhibits for someone like me who does not want to spend a whole day browsing. Remember to stop by the gift shop!

This museum is great. It gives you the whole history of the town and the different ethnic groups that lived there as well. Very informative.

Fantastic gem of a museum! A quick showcase of historical memorabilia and an incredible display of unique minerals. And of course, the kids loved playing with the interactive dump trucks and perusing the gift shop. A fun way to build some memories!

This was our favorite part of Bisbee. We learned a lot about its history. Outside of this there wasn't much else to do. Pretty cool the high school diplomas were made of copper considering how big mining for such a precious metal was to this small town.
DJ S — Google review
Very fine museum in the former headquarters of Phelps Dodge, owner of the huge mine. History, geology, mining exhibits showing technology development. Beautiful mineral exhibits formerly in the Smithsonian.Well worth the time and small expense.

Well worth $10!Be on the lookout for the hilarious “miner’s commandments” posted around the upper level of the museum :)Also- the gift shop is tax free and has very reasonable prices! The ladies working there were very kind & helpful as well.

Very nice and informative museum. Self guided. $10.00 admission. Great staff (volunteers). Neat little gift shop. There is also an archive room that you can use for research.

While waiting for mine tour. We walked over to the museum, it was very close. I would say it wasn't worth the $9 (senior). The museum was dirty, and it needed an update. It was recommended we visit its book store. But we didn't do that. I don't need any more books sitting in my home. Information was about the town of Bisbee, so you might find it fascinating.

Went to Bisbee for a few days. It's a beautiful place. The temp. is nice due to the cities elevation. There is lots to see and do and Tombstone, AZ is about a 30 minute drive and makes for a nice excursion and Tucson is about 1.5 hour drive

Old Bisbee Brewing Company is a popular spot in downtown Bisbee, offering a tasting tray with 3-ounce pours of every beer for $10. The brewery has a sizable patio and offers seven small-batch brews. The area is known for its Victorian-style houses and an elegant art deco county courthouse, making it a thriving cultural scene. Visitors can explore the compact and walkable downtown area, which features hilly terrain with numerous stairs leading to little stores and artists' places.
Top rate brewery in downtown Bisbee with a great crowd. My daughter wound up buying a book from a local author that usually frequents the brewery. Fun place with great ales!!

This was my second time coming here and I liked it so much more than I remembered. Not that it wasn’t great the first time, but after today I can honestly say it’s a place I’d gladly go back to. First of all, both times we have been greeted immediately by the bartender. Today, we shared a tasting flight and if we didn’t have plans for later that evening, there are a couple I would have stayed longer to drink more of. It was also my first time drinking on their patio and it is such an amazing place to watch the sunset in Bisbee. It is truly a brewery worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Great beer and locally distilled gin and in-house tonic water. Enjoyed the double hop IPA. Great staff. Sam our bartender was wonderful. Not much for food but the grilled brat was great...and free popcorn! If you like craft beer in a quaint environment be sure to stop here.

Great little tap room right in the heart of Bisbee and very close to the Airbnb that we rented. They have all of their awesome beers on tap although it's a small space, they have made the most of the available seating. They offer a few food options if you happen to want a snack. Been wanting to try their gin made from local juniper berries and it is a beautiful light blue color. I've tried it twice now and it's fantastic.

Nice stop after a long hike. Ice cold beer and homemade chili! Bartender super friendly
Liz Y — Google review
Great atmosphere! Excellent pricing and they had a really unique beer that looks like water from the tap. The Bartender was very pleasant and all of the patrons in the bar we're friendly to talk to a couple out-of-towners! Will definitely be visiting this place again.

We stopped here for a cold beer and snack. What a wonderful surprise! Awesome ice cold beer and salute, good food (you have to try their pretzels!) with awesome service. The owner is very nice and informative. We will come back!

Great service and beers are tasty, the footprint of this brewery suits the historic Brewery Gulch of Bisbee.

Very bad experience. Went here today in a group of 4. Beer was not as good as usual (salut beer is the reason we go). We ordered 4 brats and started eating. After a couple big bites we all realized they were raw, pink and cold. I told the young bartender/waitress and she said “they’re precooked”. That made little sense and we threw them all in the trash. My wife went to pay and said once again that they were all cold and pink and no one ate them after the first couple bites. The young waitress/bartender was completely dismissive and could not have cared less but astonishingly admitted error by saying “oh yeah, we just turned the heat up on the cooker”. She would not take any money off the bill. We are now driving home and hoping no one gets food poisoning especially as 2 of us catch a plane tomorrow. Do not eat here.

The Old Bisbee Brewing Company was my favorite place to spend time at when visiting Bisbee. The drinks are fantastic, and the bratwurst hit the spot. Sam and Amy truly made my experience the best!! Go in and get a drink from the girls and tell them Wes sent you! 😎

Homemade sauerkraut, great pricing only five dollars for bars and chips. They have a small variety of food upstairs which is really an outside platform. Get your own condiments. A few beers on tap very friendly and quick service.

I was there on a moto tour in late September. Amy and Grayson were fantastic people. They made me feel welcome and were great company on an off-day for Bisbee.. Because of them I just booked three nights for the SidePony Music Fest. Thanks for the recommendation! I'm stoked! See you all in couple weeks!

Delicious selections! The root beer is made on site and is the freshest, most rootie root beer I’ve ever had. They’re dog friendly. The patio is available and they offer games to enjoy while enjoying your brew!

Great stop, even on a weekday afternoon in the off season. Got a flight of all of the available draft beers, not a bad beer in the bunch. The Salut! was unlike any beer I’ve ever had, definitely worth a try. The flight even came with a sample of the gin. We sat on the back patio and enjoyed the mountain views and shade. Was especially excited there was craft root beer for the non beer drinkers.Food is available, a few beer garden style options. We were sad that the pretzel is no longer on the menu.Looks like it’s dog friendly throughout. There were dog bowls and poop bags on the back patio.

What a GEM!Not only were we greeted by regulars Mike & Lance, off duty bartender Amy & Derek behind the bar greeted us with smiles and quickly made room for us at the bar. It’s such a cozy spot with plenty of creative seating and there is a small food menu if you get hungry. Beer is DELICIOUS - so is their gin!We loved it so much we went back the next night and everyone remembered us by name. Sam behind the bar was also great. This is a MUST STOP if you’re in Bisbee!
Terese C — Google review
Definitely recommend starting with the flight. It was great value and allowed us to quickly find our tap of choice. The staff were super friendly and gave us great further recommendations in Bisbee and the surrounding areas. We will definitely stop here again.

It was okay. We ordered chili brats and a tasting tray. I would not order the chili brat again nor would I ever suggest it to anyone. The beer was decent but not particularly remarkable. The prices were comparable.. We sat indoors at a small table and it worked for what we needed. I had such high hopes and had suggested to a friend that we double date there. After tonight I retracted the suggestion, I have no desire to return.

Good beer. Nice people. I like the Copper Ale. The blonde and double IPA are also good. Always a stop on my Bisbee trips.

Explore the fascinating history of mining at the Queen Mine Tour in Bisbee, Arizona. Dating back to the late 1870s, this century-old underground complex offers hard-hat tours that take visitors on a journey through time. Led by knowledgeable tour guides, including retired Phelps Dodge employees, visitors descend 1,500 feet into the mine to learn about mining techniques, dangers, and dramatic stories from the past.
Definitely an experience! Had a great time. The guides were subject matter experts and great story tellers. They answered all of our questions and even made a few jokes! Would recommend this tour for anyone who is interested in mining or history. My appreciation for miners increased with this visit! If you are afraid of small spaces or cannot walk on uneven surfaces, sit this one out. I would definitly do this tour again. The staff was so friendly.

A favorite for sure. Tour was about an hour and our guide was fantastic. I should also mention the gift shop is a rock hounds dream. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed the tour. David, our guide, was very interesting & informative. We did not buy tickets in advance. The next tour available not for another 2hrs. So we bought tickets & went in town for lunch & returned in plenty of time.Couple of pointers, 1) parking can be difficult at times depending on tour times. 2) you need closed toe shoes, BUT if you are wearing sandals they have toe/foot covers to wear at no cost.Bisbee is a great town to visit.
Irene K — Google review
Our group truly enjoyed the experience. Loved the guides, who both had actually worked in the mine. Very informative and fun. Had a blast riding the little train. The rocks and minerals on display and for sale were beautiful and quite interesting as well.

If you haven’t done this yet, what are you doing with your life? This tour is fantastic, the guides are super fun and extremely knowledgeable, the only downside is that I wish they had a separate tour that would take you even deeper into the mine. I’ve spoken with a lot of people who would happily pay extra for that. This tour is perfect for the entire family, my kids loved it. It’s perfect for the price and do make sure to get your tickets in advance, because the tours sell out quick.

this place is awesome! i have grown up visiting commercial and wild caves but have never visited a mine before! the tour was so fun and riding the mine cart through the mine was so exciting! the tour guide was incredible, he told us so many cool things about the mine and his time as a miner there! i visited solo, but will definitely be back in the future with my family! i thought this was such an interesting piece of history, to be able to see it in this way!

A great way to get out of the heat of summer. Tour was interesting and a great experience. Personnel I would have enjoyed a longer and deeper tour with more details on the operation in and out of the mine.

Drove there too late for the 2:00 tour but made it for the 3:30. The tour guide was amazing. Answered all questions and had a lot of interesting information! It’s about an hour long tour. There are 38 steps to walk up to the last spot but you can always sit down at the bottom of the stairs and wait for everyone to come back down. There is a bench for anyone who can’t walk up to the top.

Very informative and educational tour about the mine. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Takes about one hour to complete your tour. If you are claustrophobic this is not a tour for you. Several stops with some minor walking, step at one location. Might want to take a sweater if you're inclined to get cold as you are underground. You will straddle a tram and be required to complete a waiver of liability. They supply a light, vest and hard hat. Restrooms, gift shop and free parking. Be cautious of Google maps we drove by the entrance twice before locating the mine.

1st time ever to Bisbee & the Queen Mine Tour. This tour, the mine & the history is absolutely intriguing & worth the trip. It's nice & cool in the mine which in summer would feel that much better. You go 1500 feet below the mountain & it's so cool to see & experience a real mine. Our tour guide was Steve who worked in the mines himself back in his days. If you're lucky to get him your visit & experience will be that much better. Steve thank you for making mine & my family's tour the most memorable ever!Highly recommend a tour, the history, sights, laughs & smells are definitely worth it. I also recommend to get your tickets/reservations advance.

Super fun tour. You go into the mine on a rail cart, during the tour you get to learn about the various mining methods they used when the mine was operational. About an hour in length.Best leave your things in the car, don't wanna lose anything while riding on the rail cart.

The Queen Mine Tour was an incredible experience! The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, making the tour both fun and educational. This was one of the best mine tours I've ever been on. I learned so much about how mining has evolved from the 1800s to modern times. The history and insights provided were fascinating, and the entire experience was well-organized and engaging. Highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in history, mining, or just looking for a unique adventure!

Awesome trip, highly recommend and purchase tickets beforehand, in person, online or on the phone. 50,000 people per year visit this place. Great for kids, leave animals at home or in your RV.Illegal to leave your pets in the car in AZ. People will break your windows for your pets that are left.

Neal and Steve provide an excellent tour! They gave us first hand accounts of working in the mine. Neal had lots of stories with some humor added in. We got tickets online in the morning and they were sold out when I called back with a question, so get your tickets in advance. The gift shop area has lots of of cool trinkets, maps, pictures and a video.

One of my favorite activities to do in Bisbee!!! 🙌⛏️🧨⚙️ We go on the Queen mine tour every time we visit 😁👌 It’s exciting, unique, and anyone can enjoy it!The tour is about a little over an hour long. I recommend wearing good shoes 👟 because once inside the mine there are areas that can be uneven with rocks and dirt. They provide hard hats before entering the mine, due to the potential dirt and rocks 🪨 that can fall from the ceiling.🛑 WARNING ⚠️ Definitely not for people who are afraid of small spaces and darkness!!! 🛑Tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered questions about the daily lives of the Queen Mine Miners. The tour guide himself was a miner for some time before the mine closed. We LOVED 🥰 the gift shop! Perfect place for souvenirs that are about the Queen mine and Bisbee!!! 🛍️ I bought my grandmother a couple postcards!💯 I highly recommend visiting!!!

We enjoyed our tour in the mine. There were only 4 of us and our guide was great he used to work in the mine so he was super knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend any one in Bisbee you should take the tour.
Dawn R — Google review
I'm claustrophobic, so I wasn't sure if I could handle going into the mine. I had no problem with it! I enjoyed the whole experience. And I'm proud of myself for going! My grandfather was an engineer for several mines in Colorado. So it was interesting to learn about his career. We rode down into the mine. Several times we dismounted to hear the tour guides speal. And one time we climbed 20+ stairs. The tour guide was knowledgeable and welcomed questions. It was about an hour long. You have to wear closed toe shoes. If you're cold natured wear a warm cardigan since it gets chilly down there. Above ground there is a gift shop to buy memorabilia or gemstones mined there.I hope if you're ever in Bisbee you will take the Queen Mine Tour!
Ms. B — Google review
Recommend this to anyone! Unless you're claustrophobic or scared of the dark. The tour guide was great, and it was awesome to have a guide who actually worked in the mining industry because he was able to answer all the questions I threw at him. I would recommend buying in advance because you can't just show up right when a tour starts because the tour will most likely have already started.

Lavender Pit is a former open-pit copper mine located near the famous Copper Queen Mine in Bisbee, Arizona. Despite its name, it's not actually colored purple; rather, it was named after Harrison M. Lavender, who played a significant role in turning the unprofitable low-grade copper-bearing rock in the area into commercial copper ore.
Nice informational center with plaques to read about the history - good information.Liked that there are holes in the fence for photos. My husband parked our 25’ school bus here no problem but no overnight parking is allowed.Don’t miss Erie Street just around the corner in Lowell!

While I am saddened by what we humans have done to Mother Earth, this huge hole in the ground does inspire awe. It's amazing what people have been able to achieve. This mine is a testament to human industry. While the average onlooker cannot go into the mine, it's free to stop in this outdoor visitor center of sorts and read about mining history and look out over the pit. Looking at this massive excavation does make one feel small.

Eerie and creepy, yet mesmerizing. Therebis a WWII Memorial there as well, honoring local Bisbee residents who gave their lives. The virtual ghost town adjacent (Lowell, AZ) is frozen in time and very photo-worthy.

Bisbee is a world famous site and has played a huge role in the mining industry. The Bisbee mine played a crucial role in the development of the town of Bisbee and the broader mining industry in Arizona. The Bisbee mine was one of the richest mineral sites in the world, producing nearly three million ounces of gold and more than eight billion pounds of copper, along with significant amounts of silver, lead, and zinc. The mine’s success led to rapid growth in Bisbee, transforming it from a small mining camp into one of the largest cities in Arizona by the early 1900s. The mining industry provided jobs and attracted a diverse population, contributing to the town’s cultural and economic development. The Copper Queen Mine was notable for its high-grade ore, which contained 23% copper. This high concentration made it one of the most productive copper mines in Arizona during its peak. The mine’s development was closely tied to the electrification of the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The demand for copper surged as electricity became more widespread, and Bisbee’s mines were well-positioned to meet this demand.Freeport-McMoRan hold the property now, it is great to be able to see this relic.

This is a pretty pit from mining days past. There are some signs with information about the lavender pit. The best time to experience it is in the afternoon. The color doesn't wash out from the blazing sun.
Anjela B — Google review
Amazing site. The colors in this pit are shocking. The size of it is just as impressive. There are 3 pits in total. They are no longer being mined. It was mostly a copper, gold and silver mine. They was other minerals but was to small and costly to purify them out. Also at the view area if you turn around you will see just mounds of waste dirt that is just as colorful and beautiful.

It's a nice little pulloff on the road between towns definitely worth it to look at the view real quick snap a few photos and read the memorials but otherwise not much. Thousands of blue/grey Sandhills Cranes migrate here every year. It is amazing to watch these huge graceful birds glide in and land on the crowded beaches.I would have loved to see the flock take-off at sunrise. An amazing sight well worth the drive up the dirt road.Quite a hike from the parking facility to the shoreline but plenty of places to rest and watch these amazing birds

What a beautiful location and little known gem of southern Arizona. We went to see Sandhill cranes and unfortunately they had already left for their migration north. But still there were a wonderful array of other birds. I highly recommend this spot.

We went to see the Sandhill Cranes in early December. The website said early morning or sunset would be good, we were there just after noon and were treated to thousands of these birds flying overhead and landing. The viewing platforms have wheelchair access and small spotting scopes setup at chair level.
Brian A — Google review
A great place to stop and enjoy when birds are around. Visited on two mornings in early March 2022.Each day had about the same number of Sandhill Cranes and Ross' Geese, just in slightly different locations. Fortunately, they were in fairly close to the walking paths and we could really enjoy their antics and sounds. There were several other bird species as well.
Jeff H — Google review
This was an amazing experience to see the Sandhill cranes wintering at Whitewater Draw. We watched them return from their morning feeding in the surrounding fields. The best was the rush of the birds in the video calling out as if heading into battle as the flock made their way back to the water.

If you're interested in Sandhill Cranes, you can see them here now! They migrate from the north by the thousands and some winter at this small marshland reserve. Picnic tables and crude toilets are available. There's a short pleasant path and Lookout areas to get a better view. Take your lunch, water, camera and jacket! They come and go during the day so google sandhill cranes at Whitewater Draw for more details on their habits. I saw at least 1000 of them!

No need to travel to Nebraska to see the Sandhill Cranes!!!! I went in mid-January 2024 and there were thousands of them.. and MANY other types of birds here too. Easily burn through your SD cards here; quite cold in the a.m. (just below freezing) then warmed up to t-shirt weather by 10 am. If you like to watch birds this is an excellent area.

An amazing wetland to see birds, especially the Sandhill Crane that roosts in the area during the winter. Other exotic ducks frequent the area too. They added overflow parking and toilets. Dogs are allowed on the leash. Many photographers and other birdwatchers with binoculars come to the area.

I was so excited to go and see the Sandhill cranes. Little did I know that the walking path was the absolute farthest from where they would be. 😳 was so sad even with an s22ultra phone I could not zoom in and get good pictures because of their location. It was a beautiful area for sure, though. I spent hours in the morning and evening trying to get glimpses of them. After sun was gone was when they all flew back in to the water. It was super cold even with a parka on lol. But they came back and there were tons still.

Very excited to finally see the Sandhills. It's a very nice place to visit. The parking was a little difficult because of all the campers set up but we had a great experience.

Wonderful Refuge to enjoy the Sandhill Cranes. We stayed for 3 hours just watching them fly back from the grain fields and enjoying the refuge. 2 hours from Tucson.

Great day with plenty of bird for anyone to enjoy. Feb 28,2024 around 1:30pm. Guessing more than 500 Sandhill cranes, 50 snow geese, and plenty of other cool birds. Dry easy to get close to the birds. Simple binoculars are great.

Great place to view the Sandhill Cranes, Snow Geese and many many more waterfowl. Even saw a Golden Eagle. I plan to go back again and spend more time there.

This was suggested to us by Dave at the Douglas visitor's center. I guess we were in the right time of year to see Sandhill Cranes come and go. What an amazing experience. Would have loved to put a video, because the sound, to hear them coming by thousands just make me so emotional and I had goosebumps 😛

Wow. All the cranes. Restrooms and paths also. Come enjoy. Road is dirt for about a mile so please make sure your car is down with dirt roads. There are more than just cranes here.

Came in October to see the Sandhill Cranes. Arrived pre-sunrise and didn’t see any cranes. Came back at 10am and watched tons of them coming back from feeding. Excellent viewing area. Will definitely be coming back.

Unbelievable hike today! Echo Canyon Loop was so beautiful and fun. Spectacular photos too!

Yesterday about 1pm we went to the draw. About 1000 sandhill cranes were there and another couple thousand were flying in! The noise was fun and the landings were a feat of mother nature. This is something you have to see in person to believe!

Fort Bowie National Historic Site offers a fascinating journey back in time to the 1860s when it was established in response to conflicts with the Chiricahua Apache. The 1.5-mile trail leads visitors through violent skirmish sites, ruins, and a cemetery, providing an immersive experience of the area's historical significance. The trek is well worth the effort and allows for exploration of various historical markers along the way.
Very interesting historic site. They want people to hike in and get some history while on the trail. The visitor center is small and I found the staff to be friendly. The hike is not arduous, and they have signs throughout the trail to tell you about the area’s history
Brian C — Google review
A unique National Historic Site with friendly and informative staff at the visitor's center (both the ranger and volunteer staff). We enjoyed the hike and roaming around the fort. The site geography meant the fort had a different feel compared to other historic fort sites we've visited. We appreciated the history as well as the geographic understanding of what made this a key location. There is ample parking space.

The trail from Apache pass seems to be shorter than walking up the hill via the information center to the Ranger Station! It's beautiful up there. You can drive from Ft Bowie to the Chirachua National Monument via Apache Pass!To the Fort and over Apache Pass is graded/dirt roads!

Excellent! It is a loop trek. Start off on the ruins trail and taking the ridge trail back (located behind vistor center). This trek takes you through other ruins, cemetery, and other historical markers. Easy, until the moderate ridge trail (loose rocks, incline, and switchbacks). If you are unable to hike at least 3 miles, you can take the handicap access road. This takes you to the vistor center and fort. To see it all, it can be about 6 miles.Lots to take in. Count on spending at least half a day. Lots of sun exposure, bring water and check the weather.

We arrived AT closing after realizing (too late) that you had to hike in. Luckily, we got a tip from the Rangers at Chiricahua--THANK YOU!--to park at the Accessible entrance (only 500 ft from the Visitor Center). Not only did the Ranger there (Suzanne?) stay a little longer for us to look around but also took extra time to help us finish our Jr. Ranger booklet! She was SO kind and understanding and helpful! Left to take down the flag as we finished rocking on the porch before leaving.Amazing history here!!!!

I really liked the hike through history on the way to the visitor center. I actually went twice - once alone with our dog to make sure my hubby can do the hike and a second time with the disabled husband. He can walk 2-3miles on flat surfaces, but had a much harder time due to the uneven terrain and up/down. It was hard on his joints. We did the smart thing: I hiked back down solo, he enjoyed the views over the 2nd fort from the porch of the visitor center, I brought the truck around to the maintenance area (it took me 1h) and he walked down to the truck. We had verizon cell service at the visitor center and the maintenance area (but not at the trail head and the trail). Also if you follow the arrow uphill from the visitor center for the return trip: you will get great views, but there is more uphill involved, but is a bit longer than the way up ..... PS the park rangers were very nice and lots of knowledge to share.... very glad we went!!!!

Beautiful hike and lots of history. Going back in time. Hike is not too difficult. In the way back you can take a different path for a more scenic view. No people on the trail add to the experience

Such a great historic site. It’s a nice long hike not to difficult some of it is up hill. Over all I say I walked about 4-5 miles. Great placard’s along the trail telling you where to go also filled with fun facts. So there is a lot of stopping along the way to read things and catch your breath. The second photo I put is a representation of the elevation change on this hike. You can see the two tall Hills on the left and the right and if you look directly in between the two that smaller little hill is the end of the hike. It’s only like 12 miles off the high way it’s a long strait road with a speed of 45 but there is no one out there so you can push faster then that. Just watch out for the cattle guards along the way.
Felix L — Google review
It’s a 1.5 mile hike each way to access the fort, but very worth it. Lots of interesting historical signs line the trail and the visitor center at the end of the hike is the perfect place for a nice rest. They have drinking fountains and restrooms. This is really only a hike for the cooler weather though as it doesn’t have a lot of shade and even 85 was almost too warm.

If you're into frontier forts, this should be on your to-do list. Like many of such forts, it's somewhat off the grid. Compared to some other forts I've visited, it ranks in the middle. Some original foundations, some partial reconstruction, lots of descriptive placards. It's along the old Stagecoach route which is pretty cool. I bike there from Bowie and it is a nice, quiet ride with little traffic. Saw a blacktailed rattlesnake and bullsnake on the road so keep eyes peeled.

For something that's tucked up and out of the way, I think more people should come visit it. It's scenically beautiful, and important part of American history. My family I wished the visitor center could be our home. The "fort" is just out there so of course it's open, but the visitor center is only open on the weekends? I wish I knew that better going. There was no one there to tell them that my great grandfather use to sell apples to the soldiers there. But my little kiddos loved running around the place and pretending the cavalry was there and Indians (hey that's what they were called when the fort was active, ok.) were running around.Side note, unless you are into hiking a mile through the hills with 4 kids under the age of 10, take the road to the left that says, "handicap access". There's a parking lot with about 7 spaces, and then still plenty of uphill walking to do.
Daniel — Google review
Close to Chiricahua National Monument. It is about a 9 mile drive on a dirt road and the visitor center is a bit of a hike from the road, There are several things to see between the road and the Fort Site. Fort ruins were much larger than I expected. Good information and story for a seemingly forgotten part of our history.
Russell L — Google review
My advise, wear a backpack! That way, one can take snacks, sandwiches,, extra water, and bring back purchased souvenirs from the visitors center. Allow apprx 2 hours getting to the center, there are so many signs to read about the past historic events and types of vegetation along the trail. Also, it helps to have a good hiking stick for walking support.
Ron C — Google review
Nice history and well-preserved area. It's 10 miles from town through pecan fields, and the last mile or 2 is a gravel road. It's a 1.5-mile hike from the parking area.
Brandon D — Google review
Be prepared to drive on dirt roads for a couple miles. Be prepared to hike on a ruff trail. The drive is beautiful and the fort and visitor center are really cool. A stroller or wheelchair would not make it up the trail. This place is free and you could spend as much time as you want there and even enjoy a picnic lunch.

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff, had a great chat about dark skies park since we were in Chiricahua for the ‘23 Geminid shower. Parking at the trailhead and making the walk around the loop is a great plan. The historical buildings are ruins, but the overlook path on the trail is beautiful.

An awesome excursion, well worth the effort and time. It was also nice to get away from the “spring break” crowds. The road in is very long and very bumpy, which was concerning for my vehicle. The 1.5 mile hike in and back is definitely worth it, it really gives a feeling for what the place was… an important passageway for many people. Plaques give relevant information along the way. The ranger at the visitor center was so cool, knowledgeable, informative, interesting, and enthusiastic! I did the junior ranger program, as usual, which was fun, and really helped encourage me to go around all of the ruins and think “outside the box” in the visitor center museum. The landscape is also awesome, it is located on a fault line, which actually has displayed all three kinds of fault movement over time (strike-slip, normal, and reverse/thrust.) !
Sarah S — Google review
Serene but beautiful location of a former fort. It's hard not to imagine the suffering of the prisoners held here (men, women and children). The visitors center is a short hike from the parking lot and the roads coming on are not all paved.

Slaughter Ranch Museum is a beautiful reminder of what the Old West was like in the late 1800s. Everything has been restored, lots of old tools, implements, even a restored Ford Model T is there. The inside of the house looks the way it did when John Slaughter and his wife Viola lived there. Beautiful pond with picnic tables makes a nice place to have your lunch. I love this place.

Edit: It’s too bad the original keeper of this site passed in 2022. The young person it went to doesn’t appreciate the history, doesn’t value the folks taking care of it, and wants it gone. Really a shame.Original: Great Arizona historical site! A very well preserved and kept AZ gem. The period structures and artifacts contained in them are pretty extensive and a pleasant surprise. Foundation caretakers are very friendly and Fred has some great stories. Friendly dogs and farm animals, but no visitor dogs allowed. Graded dirt road into property for 9 miles but it’s not bad at all, any vehicle is OK. There’s a BBQ by the pond if you want to bring some food and have a picnic (there was a family doing that during my visit). Highly recommended!

Hi guys, this is the second time in three years that we've come out to Slaughter Ranch, and it's been closed. 6 July both years, why 6 July, well it's our anniversary. The first time was our fault that we didn't check the website. We use Google maps. This year, we checked, and the website says you are open. Question: Why do maintenance on a big holiday weekend? Lastly, we had to search for the closure statement on your website. The scroll moves so slow it doesn't catch your eye. Anyway, we are local and will try again another year.

Good collection of vintage ranch gear set into vintage range buildings. (gear is collected, not from owners). Friendly staff, relaxing grounds, nice place for birds.

Beautiful historic ranch, in the middle if an unexpected landscape. Though Slaughter was a Southern Confederate he seems to have adopted the bold and honorful traits of the Union, as he built a life for himself and an extended family in this remote corner of Arizona's West. A beautiful remnant of the US forts still remain above the ranch almost as guardian to the moral imperatives expected from the less savory elements the Confederates fought for in trying to destroy the Nation. Truly an idyllic spot in the history of the south out West!
Bryan M — Google review
This is a self guided tour and you don't get the history or the story behind or of the ranch so I was a little disappointed but they give you a map and it has some history on it but it was good would be much better with a guide

This is a must-see if you're in Cochise County! This place is fantastic on many levels! It's beautiful and historic. There are so many birds too! There is roughly 8 miles of dirt road to get there, but it is smooth and nice for a dirt road.
Jake J — Google review
A slice of Arizona history, preserved and accessible. Not a theme park, not dusty and dry, Slaughter Ranch will reward the effort you put in to immersing yourself into the lives of John Slaughter and his family. 8-mile dirt road to get there? Yep - now consider what the original settlers dealt with. Caretakers (who live on the property but not in the restored buildings) are friendly and helpful, but not to the point of taking over. Recommended. Use the self-guided tour literature and breathe in an age that is past.

Chiricahua National Monument, named after the Chiricahua Apaches, is a breathtaking 12,000-acre park in Arizona. The landscape features unique rock formations formed from eroded volcanic ash. It's a popular spot for hikers, campers, and birdwatchers with diverse wildlife including coatis, javelinas, mountain lions and black bears. The park offers two campgrounds and is located about 37 miles from Willcox.
This review is for Echo Canyon Loop which was a ~3.2 miles round trip that took ~2 hours to complete.Extremely cold and windy! Rocky with some inclines. Stunning rock formations from beginning to end!Short video of the hike for those interested! https://youtu.be/EwHjPu2PLpw

What can I say that everyone else hasn't said about Chiricahua NM? If you are in the area, don't think about it...just do it! I loved my trip to this park/monument. It's amazingly beautiful, very nice hikes and wasn't busy since it's a hidden gem. It was well worth the drive and the highlight of my trip to Tucson (besides seeing a friend of mine who was also on the hike). I cannot wait to go back and do some more hiking and sight seeing!

visit before it inevitably becomes a national park and becomes overcrowded! visited on a saturday afternoon and the visitor center lot was only half full. did a hike with my dog (believe dogs are only allowed in the lower level hikes, understandable). nice, easy hike and we ran into plenty of deer and even a wild turkey.the drive is a bit of a pain - like a 40 minute drive through empty land from the closest town, but well worth it

Breath taking! A beautiful drive-through the park with the rock outcroppings and the colors of nature. A common sight is the cliff chipmunk going about his day. A photographers dream. Such a wonderful place to go unwind and spend the day. Lots of trails. Be respectful and preserve this beautiful area for future generations.

Started at Massai Point. The descent was met with a village of rock formations. It seemed like an nice easy hike. Was able to see cave like structures and hike on snow/ ice capped trails. Very slippery but was able to hug some rocks to get through. I enjoyed the experience.Dogs unfortunately are not allowed on trails. Hike would have been better with my furbaby . There are bathrooms located in the parking area. There are picnic areas on top of massai point. I did notice an occasional bench to sit on while on scenic walking trail.

What a cool place. We went on several walks/hikes. Echo canyon to the grotto and beyond was almost unbelievable. If you walk 5 miles you earn a free pin which you can pick up from the visitor's center if you can prove that you did the walking which was a nice perk

This National park was off the beaten path but worth a visit. I hiked the Rhyolite trail to Hearts of Rocks loop and back, 7.2 miles. This trail was a moderate/easy trail with many interesting views of rock formations. On the loop portion, a beautiful view of the valley can be found. And many interesting traverses thru rock pillars. Definitely bring enough water.

Absolutely breathtaking National Park Service location. Amazing scenery, low level of crowds, fantastic hiking trails. The visitor's center is so helpful and informative. I don't care how young or old you are, pick up a Junior Ranger workbook and get to know the site. We really enjoyed our conversations with the park rangers and learned a ton of stuff from those interactions as well. If you only have time and energy for a 2 hour hike, I found Echo Canyon to be the very best and most accessible of the rugged trails.

This hidden gem is perhaps Southeastern Arizona's best kept secret. It's easily my favorite National Monument. Spent the better part of the morning and afternoon exploring this "Wonderland of Rocks!" I was in utter awe of just how beautiful this place is. I was surprised that for much of the day, I rarely saw anyone here. I hiked the Echo Canyon trail down to the Grottes. Boy, was I blown away by what I saw there! The beauty of erosion at its finest. Can't wait to come back and explore more of this enchanting place!

Absolutely amazing landscape! It’s worth going out of your way to see. Go to Massai Point to get a view from the top, overlooking the scale of this place. The echo canyon trail provides a nice loop that lets you walk through the monument and see it from the top, the bottom, and right in the middle.

One of the lesser-know National Monuments but certainly worth a visit. We stayed at the shady and quite Bonita Canyon Campground and explored this mystic landscape. The scenery is absolutely outstanding and the sunset at the Massai Viewpoint was breathtaking.

Amazing Hoodoos. Very helpful volunteers and Rangers. Nicely placed sites in the trees. Big rigs may have difficulty here. We have a truck camper and parked in site 11 with some leveling required. Lots of deer casually roaming through our site Made reservations online. Great quiet spot with hoodoos behind us. Beautiful scenic drive with beautiful views and hiking trails. No hookups with water nearby and bathrooms. Thank you for a great stay!

Beautiful place, amazing views of the rock formations from the bottom of the canyon and breathtaking views from the top of the mountain. I could stay here for hours and stare at different shapes of the rock. The Massai point 6870 ft is truly spectacular. A couple of hiking trails from the top and a couple of picnic tables. There are pit toilets at the trailheads. The place is dog friendly but you can take your dog for walk only on Bonita Creek trail .

Simply spectacular ! If you are anywhere in Southern AZ do yourself a favor and visit this place . The majesty of the formations and the views are rivaled only by those of the grand canyon . Google reviews lead us to this journey and it worked out perfect so please follow along specially if you are concerned about tackling a trail . My wife and I are in our 50s and we decided to do the Echo Canyon trail down to the Grotto and back . I have to say that it was easier than expected and there were even folks in their 60s and 70s doing this stretch of the trail . It took us about an hour round trip . Make sure and bring water , a camera , and walking sticks if you have balance issues . my wife had a broken ankle a few years ago and she still takes it easy but I bought her a pair of hiking sticks at Costco for $30 and she raved about how easy it was to walk the trails with them . Truly , the pictures don’t do this place justice . There is only one road in and out so no guessing where to go as it is all well laid out and there are signs to guide you along as well . Do not attempt to bring a large RV or travel trailer as the hairpins are tight and the parking is limited . Finally , there are no services out here . No where to buy food , water , or fuel so come prepared . After our hike we drove up to Massai point and parked . When we looked over the edge there was a look out area that was a very short walk down but again , just an amazing view to experience. There is a lot more that we didn’t do but this was enough for us to experience on this day at Chiricahua National Monument.

We took a 3 1/2 mile hike on this, our first visit to Chiricahua National Monument. It was the Echo Canyon Loop Trail. Such beautiful scenery, and the first hoodoos we’ve seen since Bryce Canyon. Now we live in Sierra Vista, 2 hours away. Adding 4 hours of drive time means visiting Chiricahua is an almost all day affair. Worth it! The trail is rated Moderate, and I was tired by the last mile or so, but admittedly I’m not in the best shape after several injuries in recent years. Not a lot of loose rocks to have to walk on and plenty of room to move out of the way for other hikers. Some shade in spots but mostly in the sun. Bring lots of water and sunscreen! There’s a restroom in the parking lot, not a large amount of parking spots but typical of most parks. I highly recommend it! There are several trails to choose from, Echo Canyon Loop included the Grotto. Enjoy!

Another amazing in AZ. This is one of my favorite place. this place is hard to get to but well worth my time. The drive up is a little difficult and can be cold during chilly days, but once i get to the top will be in awe of how the ice changed the rock formations in remarkably unique ways.just walk into the formations about 100 feet and you will feel transported to another time and place. this is the must.

GO! DO NOT STOP! GO!Take the South Apache Pass to 186 / 181 to drive to the park…you get an appreciation of the terrain. We arrived at CNM Park @ 10 AM and started hiking @ 11:30AM. Throughout our 10 + mile , 5 hour hike we were constantly amazed by the Beauty of this park and region. We are planning on returning there on our next adventure.

Our family drove over for the day from Tucson. The weather was beautiful, even a little chilly on the mountain in early April. THe drive was over 2 hours but definitely worth it to see the rock formations and to hike to the grottoes on the Echo Canyon trail.Parking is an issue; if they become a National Park instead of a Monument, then I am not sure how they would handle the additional people; probably a shuttle service would be required. The visitor center is nice and has a small gift shop. The ranger who did the Junior Ranger program was really kind to my girls. I cannot recall his name, but he was new to the park, just a few weeks. He was very helpful and friendly. There is no restaurant or food in the park so come prepared. Also, there are also only a few picnic tables once you pass the first area before the visitors center. A few more along the pullouts on the scenic drive would be great.

Lots of cool snakes. Someone else said it was therapeutic. I completely agree! One of my favorite places ever now. The museum is an extraordinarily well-done tribute to the Chiricahua Desert and the reptiles of the West! Some of the snakes are terrifying, and others are adorable!

The staff there from owners Bob & Sheri Ashley to all of the other employees are so helpful and knowledgeable. The museum is very nice indoors and out. The collection of snakes and other reptiles is incredible. They have one of the biggest rattlesnakes I have ever seen. The gift shop there has so much great stuff... Michelle , Hailee, Crystal, Chelsea, and Melissa all helped me out at one point or another over the few days I was in the area. I highly recommend a stop by The Chiricahua desert museum. Small but nice place. Huge gift shop with all sorts of items from t-shirts to jewelry. There is a small walled in area with specimen plants of the area's desert environment. Most all of the plants were identified with markers listing their Latin and common names. The main building contains a display room of snakes and lizards. Of you don't like snakes, it could be a bit overwhelming. A separate building contains artifacts of the Apaches who once inhabitated the area. A lot of the information pertains to Geronimo. While small, it provides good information on the local environs.

Chiricahua Desert museum very nice place to stop on your way up to portal. I did not actually go into the museum there is a fee for the museum part. But there is a beautiful Desert garden with fountains and various type of cacti. There is a large well-stocked gift shop with some interesting unique gifts. And it has some picnic tables outside a great place to stop on the way up to cave Creek Canyon.

Located within Rodeo, New Mexico, the Chiricahua Desert Museum serves as an enriching destination for those seeking to delve into the captivating culture of the Apache tribe. The highlight of my visit was the continuously playing movie about Goyaałé (Geronimo), a Apache medicine man who lead a band of Apaches in a war against the United States and the last Apache leader to surrender. The museum's collection of Apache artifacts further enhanced my understanding of their rich heritage. I am honored and proud to share a lineage with this great warrior people, and this place helped me partially reconnect with that history.

Strange little museum. If your looking to see live rattlesnakes in glass cases then this is your place but it's NOT a museum of the chiricahua desert! The gift shop is as others have said... Pretty good. Books and things your not likely to see anywhere else. Your entry fee covers the Apache museum that's next door. It has a interesting time line for the Apache presence in the Southwest an some interesting artifacts but I'd be hard pressed to really think of it as a real museum. They do have an interesting botanic garden that's free and it's as close as you'll get to a museum of the Chiricahua Desert. I can't say that minded paying what we did but I'll for sure never go back.

Good exhibit on wildlife, enough artifacts to make it worth a trip if you're in the area. Nice garden in the back to relax and enjoy the view.

Excellent gallery, cabins to rent, RV hook up, and air conditioned Conestoga wagon you can stay in! Our RV rig parked next to the wagon feels like modern pioneering. We look forward to taking a shower in the bathhouse, and driving our tow vehicle up into the Coronado National Forest, seven miles away.Terrific restaurant/ supply store nearby, excellent views.

Pretty awesome spot. Great snakes and reptile exhibits. Great gift shop as well. They have ever manner of rattlesnake and some Gila Monsters too which are super cool.

Very interesting museum if you have an interest in reptiles. Lots of live specimens to see, and nice gift shop

Wow🐍 Snakes, history, amazing art and more. The serpentarium is totally therapeutic.. what a wonderful place with excellent details throughout. The Geronimo section adequately portrays the hostile take over by encroaching Europeans and the ensuing battles💥

Wonderful museum! Worth the stop! Say hi to Nemo the turtle! He's an endangered species. He will follow you around the room from his aquarium. Excellent displays and LOTS of live snakes (behind glass).

This is a "must see" if you are in the area, and we'll worth going out of your way if you're not! Lots of local crafts and historical knowledge and a real wealth of natural science expertise. The live reptile collection is not to be missed!!!

SHAKESPEARE GHOST TOWN
Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
Ghost Towns
Gold-mining ghost town & national historic site, now privately owned & open for occasional tours.
A fascinating tour on so many fronts and you can't beat the price of admission! The tour is guided by a family member who is extremely knowledgeable about the town's history and who provides loving antidotes and details about the ranching family that owns it and how the town came to be - the people in this story are absolutely compelling! I highly recommend the time and effort to come here if you love the history of the old west, ghost towns or, just a good story!

Great tour. We were the only ones on our tour. What a treasure this place is and one family preserving it. Dave told us the history and interesting stories of Shakespeare. If you have any interest in history, we highly recommend this stop. The tours are very reasonably priced.

What a great experience! We stayed overnight with Harvest Hosts and took the tour. My wife, 2 boys, and I had a great time checking out the abandoned silver mining town. A husband and wife own the town and offer a few daily tours. We were impressed with how well some of the buildings have been maintained or restored. The blacksmith shop is still functioning, and sometimes a local smith comes out and does iron work there. The host family was super friendly. We even explored around some in the surrounding BLM land. You can hike up and see the original mine openings from a distance as they are now on private land. It’s well worth the $10 or so they charge!

If you passing through Lordsburg, New Mexico on I 10, Shakespeare Ghost Town is a must see! Put it in your bucket list and visit! The owners have done an amazing job preserving the history of the town and the guided tour is incredible! We learned so much about the west in the 1800s from the tour! It really is worth the 2 hours it will take to do the tour! The history this family has gathered is all primary source history and the efforts to preserve the history and the stories are heroic!

What a find! Worth every minute. Town that existed before Tombstone! Dan is an incredible guide, lives on site with his wife, knows everything. They are part of the original settler family. So many original buildings! The stage stop, the hotel, the vault, the museum and more! The gift shop has great souvenirs, very reasonable. I’ll definitely return, especially if they open the original hotel to paying guests!

Call/email ahead to confirm tour times. Tour lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours. Super easy to find. We only live two hours away but this was the first time ever visiting. Have had this town on our to-do list since Covid when we learned about Ghost Towns in our area. Great way to learn about the history of the South West. Definitely a must see if in the area.

Recommend for anyone that likes history. My young kids had fun! What a neat ghost town. Not a commercialized ghost town mind you. This is in various stages of restoration, with many original furniture items. Due to this, you can't just wander the town, a tour is needed to go in the buildings etc. The tour was nice, with neat family stories mixed in to help bring the town alive. The kids were entertained with the oldest asking questions and participating, 3&6. There is a small gift shop and mini museum area. We picked a couple books up to read more stories from this little town. I did call in advance to verify tour availability, we were visiting close to a holiday and wanted to check if hours varied. We are part of Harvest Hosts and parked our RV overnight. The night sky is beautiful!Kids love talking about staying at the ghost town and seeing the blacksmith shop, dance studio, and old hotel.

This is the best preserved ghost town I have seen and the work of preservation is still ongoing. They have an impressive gun collection kept in a secure Fort Knox vault. The blacksmith shop's rusty tools are innumerable and worthy of being a museum in itself. The tour guide is excellent and looks like a character in a western movie.

This was our second stay here as Harvest Host guests(this is not a hotel, motel or an RV park, as Harvest Host is a part of an RV club), and we plan on staying whenever we're passing through. They invited us to stay again anyway, so we'll take them up on their offer. Thank you! They don't claim to have ghosts here, it's an historical place, after all.Their new logo, which I adore, was made by the co-owner, the host's wife. I bought the stickers. We realized that, the day we were to leave, that it was too windy to drive so they graciously let us stay another night(much to our delight, as I didn't want to leave yet). The host/owner Dave, along with Rod, a reenactor, invited us to have a few beers on the porch and we happily obliged. They regaled us with historical and modern stories, ("you kill 'em, you bury 'em", was the motto back in the days, as the ground here is hard and tough to dig) This will forever be a memory burned into my mind. The story about the man killed during a brawl with no one claiming it, then placing the body along the railroad only to plead "no one killed him* was pretty good.Unforgettable. The six of us also saw a rocket launch. That is another unforgettable memory. The tour itself is full of fun stories and facts. The saloon is riddled with bullet holes because the patrons were challenged to shoot as many flies as possible. The ceilings are made with yucca stalks, with cloth under them to keep the dust out. The stalks are still there, but a lot have been replaced, as with the cloth. Stuff wears out, y'know.Like I said, we'll be visiting here again. Thank you, Dave.

Great place to visit and lots of history. It was very hot on the day we went, so I would suggest going in cooler months. Either way, remember to take something cold to drink. Also, I recommend that you give them a call on the day you are planning on going to make sure they are open. My second favorite building is the Blacksmith Shop. Just incredible! My first favorite building is the Jim Emanuel Western Collection vault (NO picture taking allowed). Awesomely Incredible!! And our tour guide was awesome.

Keith provided our tour. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about the old town. Lots to see here including a pistol, rifle and saddle collection that has been well preserved. We stayed overnight as Harvest Host members in our class A motorhome. Enjoyed the fabulous views of the area!

It is clear that Dave, the owner and guide, has his heart and soul into this amazing place. He is preserving the life, spirit and history of Shakespeare. His stories are interesting, compelling, and entertaining. The stay was Harvest Host and easy. Plenty of space for any size rig. Easy to get in and out. The dirt road in is very well maintained though washboarding kept us at a slow roll.Really glad we made this a stop on our journey. would stop again when in the area.

Well-preserved ghost town by private family owners, lovingly restored. Super-informative docent, wonderful history of a family's (and a town's) efforts to build and preserve their history.

This is by far one of the favorite historical tours we've taken. Ever! The authenticity of the buildings and documentation of events was amazing. Nothing here is commercial or fake. The tour was a couple of hours long and so informative. Our guide was friendly and answered all our questions. We highly recommend this experience!

Very interesting. This is a tiny ghost town with about 4-5 buildings. The tour guides know their stuff! They could probably talk about the place for hours. I enjoyed hearing the ghost stories! My family arrived about 30 min early and they accomodated us. I would not recommend arriving way early as I want the guys to have their whole lunch break. Loved the antiques and dresses. Very cool.

Most interesting history tour I've taken in all my travels. Shakespeare is typically only open for tours, however there are scheduled reenactments throughout the year. The tour guide is 5th generation caretaker from this town. His personal insights bring this ghost town to life.

This place is amazing, talk about real untouched history. Managed and maintained by relatives of the original family, the host is a real life historian dedicated to the preservation and restoration of a history going back to the mid 1800s. Incredible amount of information nicely presented about the family that owned the town and their dedication to preserving and presenting the history. Looking forward to going back and seeing how they continue to bring back history. Dave the tour guide deserves a medal for working so hard to restore and his true dedication. Please visit and pass the word.

Loved this place. One of my new favorite hot spring resorts. Clothing optional and clothing required pools and one just for overnight guests. Nice outdoor showers. Club house with restrooms, microwave, tables, coffee pot for overnight guests. Laundry and little store with anything you might need. The campsites can be a tight squeeze getting through for a big rig but our 35 foot bus fit in spot 3 just fine, was just a little stressful navigating. Will be back next season!

Peaceful retreat in private soaking pools in the middle of a desert. No noise, friendly staff, harmonious vibe. Pools could use a little maintenance hence 4 stars, otherwise clean and serene and wonderfully relaxing experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying here all the times that I did. It's much easier getting a camping spot here than in nearby public sites. I haven't stayed in the cabins, but I never hear anything bad about them.... All good comments. The staff is is very friendly and helpful.

Wonderful place, well maintained, and beautiful pools. The ONLY flaw is their generator policy. There are several spots with electrical hookups yet generators are still allowed. Lots people who don’t pass the vibe check come here and leave their generators on all day despite not even being there. It totally ruins the vibe. I come to hot springs to get away from noise but now I’m paying for it. I think they are trying to please everybody, but the reality is they are chasing away their best customer base to appease another. If it wasn’t the only good place close to us I’d never return.

Approximately 42 miles southeast of Silver City, New Mexico, Faywood Hot Springs is a desert oasis that offers a variety of camping options for all types of campers, including RV, trailer, and stake-in-the-ground sites. It features clean restrooms, showers, and potable water. Additionally, there are cabins available for rent and, as a major highlight, natural hot springs where one can relax and rejuvenate and forget about life for at least a little while.During a visit to Faywood, my friend and I had the pleasure of meeting some lovely locals from nearby Mimbres. They extended a warm invitation for us to join them in July for the Hummingbird Festival, an event that particularly thrilled my friend, who is a wildlife photographer specializing in birds. There are a few birds that hang around in Faywood Hot Springs. The people of Mimbres and Faywood embody the friendly, well-read, and down-to-earth nature that is characteristic of long-time residents in southern New Mexico. Their genuine hospitality and love for their community create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and locals alike.

The only reason I gave this a 2 vs. a 1 is because of the hot springs and cabin. They were as expected, nothing fancy. Given that, the cost was a little pricey. The cabin is not insulated so even with the heater on, you could feel the chill. The hot springs are hot but don't expect a "resort" style experience. The gates and fence are rickety and could use some more light at night. The whole place could use some upgrades so it was less like a campground and more worthy of the name "resort". But by far, the worst part and the reason I would give it a1, was being locked in and unable to get out!! They lock the gate to the place with a padlock and give you a code for the lock. I tried multiple times to unlock the lock with the right code and it would not open. So I was stuck inside the confines of the "resort" for my stay because it was Christmas and they weren't answering their phone or email. If another visitor hasn't come at the same time I did and somehow opened the gate for me, I would've been stuck in there for who knows how long as they never answered me. I didn't get to explore the countryside and if I hadn't brought my own food would've been very hungry! I see no reason to go back there. My apartment complex's hot tub does the same trick without locking you in!

Nice place, but poor management. I'm pretty much done with this place. Used to be good, but now they seem to be allowing people to camp out for months at a time. It's impossible to make a reservation. Plus, if you have a family, then you have to add each kid, spouse, iguana, etc as an extra charge. By the time you go to checkout the price has gone up just like the hotel resorts that spork you with "resort fees." Faywood has gotten lazy. Such a great place, but now it's just turned into an extended stay America.

We had a wonderful time here. The cabins are perfect for a weekend stay. You'll have everything you need. The tubs are clean and clearly marked for clothing optional areas. The staff is friendly and happy to answer any questions you might have. We weren't able to utilize the private pools due to some issues with the pump, but they worked with us and gave us credit for our next visit. We'll be back for sure!

A weird little oasis!I spent just one night at Faywood, but I loved it and would definitely stay again in the future. You are basically in the middle of the desert, so expect things to be sandy and have some bugs. The young woman who checked me in was very friendly and helpful. I stayed in a cute little shed/house/room and while it was sparse, it was clean and perfect for a short stay. My fee also gave me full access to the public hot spring pools (regular and clothing optional) as well as a 1-hour session in a private hot spring tub. Both were lovely and were set against the beautiful New Mexico landscape and sky.The only things that could be better are, more lighting around the grounds at night, particularly around the pools, and a better system for the gate when leaving in the morning, I had to dig through my paperwork to find a code to unlock a gate in order to get out. They could probably benefit from more staff to clean the spaces, and man the desks/gate.Overall a really great summer camp like experience, as long as you go into it with proper expectations, I think you'll find it to be a really cool little gem in the desert.

I've stayed at Faywood twice and I'm about to head back again. I had to laugh at the negative reviews here - y'all are exactly the kind of finnicky humans I need a vacation from. Faywood isn't a "resort"; I agree. I don't go to resorts because I don't enjoy being pampered, I can't stand pretentious spa culture, and I generally don't understand the appeal of bourgiousie "relaxation". I don't care if the pools are intimate. I don't mind that the water isn't tended to immediately between guests. It feels amazing! I've met some cool people here, and reuinited with hitchhiker friends who came to camp. The cabins are just tiny houses with basic amenities. If you require better glamping equipment, go away. My favorite part is that it's hard to find and is in the middle of nowhere - it's an awesome secret! I hope it stays only minimally popular and doesn't become a tourist attraction or an actual resort. Faywood, I'm your biggest fan. I'm bringing my laser pointer for the kitties. I hope I get woken up before dawn by curve-billed thrashers and have more weird encounters with owls. I miss the sound of gravel under my feet.

Serene, vista-filled state park featuring unusual volcanic rock formations plus camping & hiking.
Amazing place to camp! The massive boulders/ rocks that this campground is in are so impressive. We opted for the dry camp because the sites were do much more private and unique. The trails and wild life were wonderful. Can't say enough about this place.Cell service w/ Verizon hotspot .was good
Lisa B — Google review
One of the coolest campgrounds we've ever been to! Campsites are very unique. They do offer water and electric sites for big rigs. Most are by reservation only. Some are first come first serve sites. The dispersed campsites among the rocks are absolutely amazing! No power, no water at these sites. Every site is a little different. Some of them allow for big rigs some of them don't. So do your research prior she coming. Hiking through the stones is a moderate hike. The trail through the stones is not handicap accessible. But they do have the botanical garden which is very cool and some easier paths that can be accessed. Didn't get a chance to do the biking trail. We loved how they camouflaged the visitor center share with the brick wall to look like the surroundings. That was very unique! The staff were very nice and helpful! Clean facilities with showers available. If coming, give yourself at least 2 or 3 days to be able to explore the area. Definitely could have spent longer here!

This is a fun place to visit. Nice campsites tucked in between the rocks. Showers and clean bathrooms at the Visitor Center, clean vault toilets around the rest of the park. Road is accessible for cars, you don't need an SUV, or truck. Service was spotty(Verizon and T-mobile).

Very interesting park with a bunch of rock formation. Exploring the rocks is like I was scrambling in a maze of excitement but sadly went alone. Only did the “Table Mountain” trail located at the back of the state park next to the Pegasus campground reservation site. The view at the end of the trail was worth looking and you can see the whole piles of rocks in one area (you can see on my pictures I posted with this review). What a view I can see why it’s called city of rocks for a reason. Love the area of this place would recommend for those who wants to explore this spot. 👍

Oh my goodness, I loved this place. I could live here; the rocks were amazing! There are quite a few hiking trails to explore. It's so quiet here. Around 4am each morning I could hear a hooty owl; it was really cool! If I lived in New Mexico, I would have a state park pass and come here annually; it was that great! But, this is a great place to come and just spend the day. The staff that working at the visitors center were friendly and helpful. Never saw a rattlesnake, but it was a great place to bird watch. Make sure you have plenty of gas and food when you come as the closest place is 30 miles away.

Deducted one star for shower availability. Very unique place. 2 to 3 nights max is all you need. If you're staying on a site on the west side, there's a high probability you're going to get blasted by sand when the wind kicks up. If you stay on the east side you may be sheltered a little bit by the rocks. I had a miserable time in some unbelievable wind the first day and the last day. The only showers are at the visitors center; In the men's room, only one shower was available; the other one was out of service with a sign on it that said they don't know when it will be fixed. The water temperature cannot be adjusted and it is only tepid. So, there is only one single shower for the entire campground for men. All the restrooms throughout the campground are pit toilets. There are water spickets spread out throughout the campground to fill up your tanks. People frequently recommend to visit Silver City, but I was not impressed. It's basically a run down somewhat gritty town with a little charm. You may or may not like it.

Love this place! Rock formations are fascinating and are fun to explore to feel disconnected from the fast-paced world. The quiet is so peaceful. All you hear is the breeze. Facilities and staff are excellent…friendly and helpful, as well as clean showers and running-water toilets. Campsites are well kept. One of the best features? The night sky! So dark and vast and full of stars! Will keep coming back again and again!

1st time visiting here. Nice visitor center and friendly staff.Large clean restrooms with showers.Nice history of area and souvenirs available.Really cool campsites nestled in amongst the boulders.Restrooms located thru out area. So you're never that far from one.You have to go up to Observation Point if possible. Steep gravel road, but I made it up in my Slingshot. You don't want to try it in a large RV.I am looking forward to going back!

What a great experience for our whole family and for only $5! The restrooms at the visitors center have running water ,but the ones throughout the park don't. They are more outhouse style. We took about 1 hour to explore. Recommend taking hiking boots to climb the rocks. We saw they have electric and water camp sites . Some are 1st come 1st served.

LOVE this place! There's hookups available but I choose to camp among the rocks. Beautiful place to explore, you keep finding hidden gems, passageways, cave type structures n petroglyph. Trash cans at every site. Clean showers with really hot water. Trails for walking or biking. Friendly staff. I'll definately be going back.

Pull thru RV sites, with water, electricity, covered large aluminum tables and a feeling of privacy; easy check in, beautiful scenery, clean and friendly Park Rangers. The park office was not open the 3 days I camped but a Ranger was very helpful and sold me ice when I asked. The rock formations, trails and pathways are easy walking, well labeled with the flora and geology and picturesque and unusual.

Pretty cool little place to stop and see while traveling through. We took one of our pups, but it was a bit too hot for him. Plenty of trail to walk around and quite a few camping spots also. There were a few benches along the trails. We did have to remove an abundance of glass while we were walking the trails, which is pretty sad. If you plan to take children or pets, just be mindful of the time of day cause it gets hot out there! It also might not be the most interesting thing for the kiddos, so get creative and maybe do some group photos on the rocks!

Awesome park and campground!I only stayed one night (wish I stayed longer actually!) and chose the campsite ("1 booties" on their website/"1 bootes" on the campsite sign) directly across from the visitor centre as I wanted to be close to the washroom & shower. The spot was super spacious and equipped with a firepit, picnic table, grill and secured garbage can. It felt very private with the rocks surrounding it and I got lucky with not having any neighbours beside me. I did the Hydra Trail hike around the site and it was so pretty, especially with all the snow that day! I would definitely stay here again for longer.

This will be in my permanent list of places to revisit. You can camp among the huge boulders. Most sites are well separated from each other. There is Electric hookups, but you're close together. Vault toilets, trash, water n hot showers available 24/7. Only con was the visitor center was open only 1x out of the 4 days I was there. I caught them coming bk from lunch, around 2pm. Lots of hiking, or slow walking trails available. Get your map of The petroglyph locations from inside the visitor center.

Another day, another gorgeous NM campground. I’m starting to get the state’s nickname of “Land of Enchantment.” The City of Rocks is a bunch of large, volcanic rock columns, rising as high as 40 feet and separated by paths. We are staying at the very end of the campground in site 17, amid a couple of “city blocks” with 360-views of the desert and mountains. The site comes with a fire pit, table and garbage bin. The price? $12 a night, including reservation fee.

Rock formations seem to come out of nowhere. Great camping options. Electric and water sites are huddled together near the entrance and are spacious and well maintained.Lots of unique options for camping right up against the rocks are available. They are dry campsites but well worth the spectacular sunsets and more private.Trails are great. Hike or bike.Did I mention the sunsets? It’s soooo peaceful there.Bathrooms with showers are very clean. Nice visitors center.Note: no dump site at the park. Down the road at Deming there is a free dump station at the Valero gas station. It’s to the left of the lot as trucks exit their gas pump. Will definitely come back.

We RV camped in this state park two separate times during our road trip. We loved the park! Bathrooms, hot showers, firewood and ice for sale and a nice ranger station with exhibit. We wish there was a better way to know what sites are available and which ones are “first come, first served”. They are not marked on the map, plus old papers often stick around at site boards giving impression the spot is taken. Sites 43-42 not marked on the main loop, and invisible off the road - we got 43 twice - campers just pass by not realizing there are two spots there! Not at all visible off the road. Also when I asked over the phone what we do if all are taken, the lady told me there is nothing we can do but other campers were told they can stay on the parking for the garden as an “overflow”. There is also an RV parking near hot springs in case you waste a trip (20 miles off Route 10 one way- rented campers have daily limit, so wasted trip would really be a disappointment). The park is magical! Wood fires allowed! Bathrooms clean! Hook up sites are not in a picturesque area among the boulders but a little off and cramped together. So we opted out and stayed in a hidden 43. Loved the boulders!! Highly recommend. This park was a highlight of our trip (east coasters RV roadtrip during spring break). Ranger station and phone close at 5pm.

What a cool , just incredible place , it appears mother nature left her own version of Stone Henge out here in the southern New Mexico desert. Not often noted or advertised in travel literature , but oh so worth the drive to see . We just stopped to take a look , but we're envious of the folks camping here on sights in between the rocks. One of the biggest highlights of our week , while visiting and seeing everything there is to see in Southern New Mexico .

What a strange place! Very cool. I was there after the visitor center closed so I just drove the road that looped the area. It was a little difficult to tell where I was allowed to be as a day visitor rather than a camper. The hiking trails weren't clearly marked and were difficult to find without talking to someone at the visitor center. Even so, I was able to find a pull off spot that seemed ok to park at and wandered around the rocks in a way that I think didn't bother any campers. It's a very beautiful and strange boulder field in the middle of grasslands with mountain ranges in the distance. It's worth seeing. Pay the $5.

A very cool park , tons of fun hiking through the boulders , very clean and quiet . We didn’t make a reservation but there are a few first come first serve spots . Also a nice day trip to gila cliff dwellings .

So...first of all... part of me doesn't want to write this review.... because this place is so magical that I want to keep it to myself! But I'll be fair because someone told ME about it. The campsites all rock, pun intended. The night sky is vertiginous and vast! The rocks are just amazing. There's a great 3.5 mile trail that circles the campground.Now.... facilities.... There are a number of restrooms, such that there's likely going to be one near your campsite. There are free hot showers at the visitor's center that are available 24/7, except during cleaning, of course. Ocatillo and cacti were in bloom when we were there recently, which added a pop of color. It's magical enough that we made more reservations before we left.Faywood hot springs is super close, and Esperanza Winery is too.Check it out. You won't regret the choice!

Great park to visit. Loved it. The staff was friendly. But make sure you take cash to pay the fee and plenty of drinking water. Day visits are allowed for a $5 fee. Night stays cost more.

Museums
The Deming Luna Mimbres Museum is a must-visit gem in Deming, New Mexico. Located just three blocks south of the main drag, this museum housed in the old Armory building offers an impressive collection of old pottery, sparkling rocks, pioneer artifacts, toys, dolls, quilts, and dental equipment. Visitors are often surprised by the diverse range of exhibits covering various subjects. The impeccably kept facility and friendly staff make it a delightful stop on any road trip.
This is a big history museum in a small town with a history richer than many large cities. The exhibits are stunningly detailed in their attention to small things. Almost as if presented as a counterpoint to the little things, there are large full-sized vehicles in two or three areas that give us a sense of having been transported back into time. As a history lover, I was blown away. If museums reflect the community where they are based, Deming must be one amazing place.

A ol timing museum with much to see! As an old armory, it has so much space for all kinds of exhibits! Even a second floor. It's a really great wall though not only Deming's history but American history. I only wish there was more info boards on the history of the Mimbres and their pottery. As a Pueblo Native, I was enjoying seeing these types of exhibits. There's a gift shop and other historical places to see nearby. This is definitely a must stop visit if you're in Deming!

Wonderful little museum, interesting exhibits, worth several hours' visit here and the surrounding area for outdoor displays.

What a jewel of a find in Deming! This museum rambles on multiple floors and features something for everyone! From the Hiroshima doll to the gem collection and beyond, my husband and I were truly entertained. The staff is friendly and helpful and their gift shop has special, affordable selections. (We got a nice New Mexico cross there. )

An unexpected treat. Staff were great and museum was awesome. Not only items and info from Deming, but truly across the world. An amazing doll collection, the pottery artifacts, the geodes oh my! Learned some about my roots too, had no idea Czechoslovakian immigrants settled in the area. We only planned 2 hours, plan 4 hours to read more. Admission is free, but donations welcome. Highly recommend making the stop.

Highly recommended!! Amazing place to stop by on a road trip!! Incredible exhibition and nice, friendly staff. So much to look at, great place to learn about Mimbres Native Americans’ history and lots of other things. Spent 3+ hours visiting and quite a few bucks at the cute gift shop. The railroad timetable rack was my favorite spot.这是非常棒的小小博物馆!走过路过请不要错过!

This museum is an absolute gem! My dad and I were on our way back to Phoenix from New Mexico and I looked up "Military museums" since my dad is a huge fan of all things military. This museum popped up in my search and since it was so highly rated and was right off the I-10, there was no reason not to stop by (plus, it's free!). And we were so happy we did. We were both so impressed by the building, the exhibits that cover a vast array of subjects, the impeccably kept facility, and the super friendly and helpful staff. This museum is so unassuming from the outside, then when you go in and start to walk the building and the exhibits just go on and on! I highly recommend the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum! You could really spend hours in there!

For a town of 15,000, this is an amazing historical collection. From ancient (and lost) Indian cultures to Deming in World War II, they have extensive collections. While not the Louvre or British Museum, it is a very impressive museum that likely rivals anything in the entire US southwest. If you go through Deming and you like history, this is a must stop.

This Museum surprised me with their collection. They need to write an article on Texas Highways about it. I could have stayed there all day, so many great collections. I highly recommend it. Take your kids, take your time reading and enjoy the collections. I fell in love with Deming. I will make the drive yearly and definitely stop here. Everyone was so friendly and hospitable.

This is an awesome campground. I was here last year and came back because I really like it here. The dump station and showers are closed. They have very clean porta potties all over the campground. It's full of plants and trees. Easy pull through sites for all sizes of motorhomes. If you have a NM park pass, you only pay for electric $4/day if you want it. Plenty of areas to walk your dog, very peaceful and includes water, picnic tables with covers over cement patios. I have enjoyed staying here for the last two years.

Quiet, simple state park a couple of miles from the Mexican border. I stayed on a non-electric, water only campsite but there are lots of campsites with electricity. There are very clean bathrooms with flushing toilets and hot showers. The park rangers and other employees are all very friendly and are willing to answer questions and give directions to restaurants and grocery stores in the area. You can see the lights of the border in the distance. There are awesome sunsets here.
Amanda E — Google review
Enjoyed our two nights there. Very nice little museum, plus a knowledgeable park ranger to answer questions. Sites are flat, easy access, and clean. This is desert, so don't expect trees and babbling brooks. Utilities required a little maneuvering to get close enough for standard length electrical cable to reach. In April 2024 the dump station was closed, so check and plan accordingly. Mexico is a 5 minute drive away.

Very nice museum to learn about the of Pancho Villa Raid into the United States on March 9th, 1916 and the Punitive Expedition which followed. Did you know the United States Army was using armored trucks and aeroplanes then? They were! Spend some time here and learn all kinds of interesting facts you did not know about the leaders and soldiers on both sides of the raid.

What I am grateful for on this windy frigid day of camping; 1. New Mexico State parks have camping spots with electric hookups for only 14$/night (can be reserved online at Reserve America) 2. my brother gave me an outdoor extension cord as I loaded up the car for this road trip, 3. that Deming Walmart had one last ceramic electric heater on the shelf 4. I have foods suitable for raw eating 5. this is not my first rodeo of cold weather camping. (Certainly not my last for the next couple of months.) 6. If things get sketchy, Borderlands Cafe or Erma's Kitchen is right across the road. This state park is nice! The museum is very informative. Did you know...Pancho Villa's second hand man "The Butcher" was thrown from his horse and died in quicksand? The universe finds a way.

The good: Far enough from the road to not be noisy; large and level sites; budget friendly, especially if you have the NM state parks camping pass; and it's an interesting place to learn a bit of history, especially since there's a museum in the park. Cell coverage for Verizon and Boost are good. The not so good: Restrooms, showers, and the dump station are closed until further notice; the playground area is also closed until further notice; electric and water hookups are a little oddly placed, so bring plenty of hose and cord.Overall, a pleasant enough stay and we'll likely visit again.

We had to accelerate our travel plans from Ontario to Arizona by a week to avoid some very unseasonably cold weather. Unfortunately this weather extended down into Dallas where we had planned to spend a few days. Looking for somewhere we could get to that was warm we discovered Pancho Villa State Park. We made plans to head there for four or five nights, not knowing what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised. This is a beautiful Park with great sites beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Sites are only $14 per night with water and hydro and no admission fees. Puerto Palomas, Mexico is just 3 miles away across the border. Although the washrooms and dump station are closed at this time there were very clean porta potties available and the washrooms at the visitor center were opened from 7:00a. m. until 4:00 p.mWould highly recommend several nights here if you are in the area.

A wonderful overnight for us on our trip. This town is where Pancho Villa made his raid on the US late one night in March 1916. It later became the first US military air base and there are several remnants of the buildings in the park. Our stay was quiet and peaceful. The bathrooms are clean and tidy and while the sites don't have sewer, there is a dump station on your way out. We plan to return.

Amazing presentation of the Pancho Villa story by a very knowledgeable docent. The reasons, the raid and the aftermath, along with great artifacts. Many firsts in US military history occurred here in 1916.

Nice State Park - Pancho Villa is a really nice state park with plenty of quiet camping with water and electricity. We just spent five days there and enjoyed the little town of Columbus and the surrounding area. Being only three miles from Mexico we parked at the border and twice had wonderful meals at the Pink Store. The staff at Pancho Villa are welcoming and good, the park and restrooms are very clean. Unfortunately the dump station is inoperable and I think this hurts the attendance a lot.

Pershing. Not many buildings remained, and now it's a camp site, take a walk around the entire park, you will still get to see the headquarter, the sign points to the very first US military airbase, and the first grease rack where they used yo repair trucks.

I generally love going to this park. The cactus gardens and Yuca are beautiful, and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately they're currently having sewer problems leaving them with no restrooms, showers, or dump station, so the place is sadly empty, with the south loop completely closed.I'm looking forward to being able to go here again, and might chance a 3-4 day stay now in an rv, if you like being alone under the stars...And with the border entrance to Mexico right next to the park, it's always good for a quick overnight stay. There is electricity and water. If you need anything else, the rangers can point you in the right direction.

My wife and I had the pleasure of taking a much-needed break from visiting family to relax and indulge in some local wines at this lovely winery. We were absolutely blown away by the delicious selection of wine, especially the sparkling wines - they were truly a treat for our taste buds! While they offer tempting food options, we decided to stick with the wine tastings to fully savor the flavors. We were so impressed with a couple of sparkling wines that we just had to purchase a few bottles to take home with us. The only minor critique we have is that we love to learn about the wines while tasting, but the young lady who helped us didn't seem to be as knowledgeable about the winery. However, that didn't detract from our experience at all - we still had a fantastic time!

Just Wine tasted in Wilcox Arizona and let me tell you, this Winery definitely holds several bars over wilcox. All of us, liked every wine we tasted. Wish I could have tasted more. The poors were very generous so only able to taste one flight. Not complaining!

We had a great time at the winery. We Harvest Hosted on Sunday and the young lady working was fantastic. She ran the whole tasting room and food service by herself. She did an amazing job and with talking with her, she enjoyed her job. My wife did a flight for tasting and I had two local beers. They were all good and we had the meatball flatbread and it was delicious. Would stop here again if ever in the area

Wine feast. Got there at noon. Birria trailer was amazing. Had birria fries. Was a 10 out of 5. Wine tasting at the wine slushy table was cool. But the wine tasting at center booth was not inviting or relaxed. I would have spent more money but the staff was not so enthusiastic. I came in second place for cork competition 😃

Delicious food, great wines, and top drawer server, Desiree. She was fun, helpful, and provided excellent service. Traveling with Harvest Hosts and places like Lescombes is terrific! Bought some of their great wines too! Thanks!

We stopped here as a Harvest Host member and the parking was great. There were seven RVs there, all but one enjoying the wine. Marisol, who staffed the winery that night, did it all! She recommended a delicious wine for me and they had a good stout for my husband to enjoy. I bought a bottle of the hatch chili wine; It piqued my curiosity and Marisol did not have an open bottle. Quiet evening sleeping there...

Really neat place. Extremely remote down some pretty rough roads, and the park trails are quite deteriorated as well. I was able to find some interesting stones in the road along the way, though. I definitely recommend a 4x4 if it's wet. There are some pretty big holes.NOTE: If you head to Cooke's spring house (the gazebo looking structure), BEWARE OF RATTLESNAKES! It was literally being guarded by one on the concrete pad by the signs, and he wasn't going to move.

Need a truck to get to it. Not a 4x4 though. Need ground clearance. Place is a awesome. Historical artifacts everywhere. Please don't take anything and take out your garbage. It is a few miles back from the road. But it is there.

If you enjoy reading about the Indian Wars a visit to Fort Cummings is worth the trip, if just to better understand the terrain challenges faced by the 9th Cavalry during the Vicotorio War. I was able to get to the site in a Ford Escape rental car and if you are comfortable on dirt roads and take your time most vehicles should not have an issue. There are a few spots where the road is rutted or rocky but careful driving will get you through. As others have pointed out follow the signs and not your GPS. Almost exactly 1 mile after turning off State Route 26 onto County Road A019 you will pass through a cattle guard (32.428614, -107.587472), turn left and follow the trail due west along the fence line. It is about 4 miles to the Cemetery and 4.5 miles to the ruins of the Fort. According to GAIA GPS you are on either BLM or State Trust land except for the Butterfield Stage area that is on Flying U Ranch Land.

Ambush of the Freeman Thomas Mail Party, July 1861Of all the battles in Cooke’s Canyon, there is none more famous than the Apache ambush of conductor Freeman Thomas’ westbound San Antonio & San Diego Mail Line coach in July of 1861, about two years before the Army established Fort Cummings. Although many details of the battle have been lost to history, Mangas and Cochise, the Apache leaders that protected their homelands &Thomas, watchful for travelers through the canyon. had equipped his coach with a good supply of arms, probably including the highly effective breech-loading Sharps rifles, and ammunition. His party comprised an experienced and diverse group of men of the western frontier. Thomas himself, a 29-year-old native of Ohio, had seen the results of Apache fury first hand, on the trail. His driver, Joseph Roescher, a 26-year-old from Germany, left little clue to his past, but he apparently had worked on the stage line for some period. Thomas’ passengers – including 19-year-old Emmett Mills, Robert S. Avaline, Matthew Champion, John Wilson, and John Portell – came to the frontier from various locations to the east. They had worked as stagecoach hands, miners, ranchers and gamblers. Some had been involved in shootouts. Some had seen the aftermath of Apache attacks. They all knew the risk they faced, and they brought their own side arms and rifles.Leaving from Mesilla, Thomas took his coach northward along the west side of the Rio Grande along the Mesilla Valley to the Picacho station, where he turned westward, past Picacho Peak, then across some 50 miles of desert to Cooke’s Spring and the eastern entrance to the canyon. There, at the spring, the party apparently rested through the night, letting the draft animals recuperate from the long and arduous haul across the desert. Come early morning, Thomas and his party renewed their journey, now beginning the passage through Cooke’s Canyon, the Journey of Death. “The stage was set,” said Kühn, “for one of the most desperate fights ever recorded in the annals of frontier warfare.” Probably, just as the coach entered the eastern end of the gorge, the Apaches opened fire, pouring a hailstorm of musket balls and arrows down onto the coach and the travelers, wounding one. Thomas swiftly put his coach in flight, westward, over the trail, with the Apaches in pursuit. Apparently fearing that more Apaches lay in wait ahead, ready to cut off any hope of escape, Thomas decided to turn off the trail, heading southward toward higher ground to take up a defensive position. Under heavy fire from the Apaches, Thomas and his men, now desperate, unhitched the draft animals and drove them down the hill, hoping that the Apaches might abandon the fight and pursue the team, according to Sweeney. That clearly failed. Swiftly, Thomas and his men stripped the coach, taking the Sharps rifles, ammunition, water and provisions. They threw up stone barricades, preparing for a siege. Seven men, one wounded, against many dozens. The Apaches continued their withering attack, but at a price. By one account, said Sweeney, they lost 25 warriors and suffered many wounded—an example of the effectiveness of the Sharps rifle in the hands of brave and experienced frontiersmen. Cochise himself and his eldest son Taza may have been among the injured. Even with their overwhelming numerical advantage, the Apaches – themselves daring fighters by any measure – evidently could not finish off Thomas and his men until sometime the following day, July 22, or maybe even July 23. In revenge for their losses, the Apaches stripped and mutilated the bodies, which were not found until two freighters passed the site several days after the fight. The ferocity of the battle, the freighters said, could be measured by the numerous shell casings littering the ground and the bullet marks covering rocks and trees around the stone barricades. According to Kühn, Cochise –who knew something about courage in battle – said that if he had 25 fighters like Thomas and his men, he would “undertake to whip the whole United States.”

Most interesting once you find it! Do not follow google maps,it will take you to the ranch but not the fort. There is a hand pained arrow. Follow that left road. Do not try to go there unless you have a high clearance vehicle. The road is not maintained and is rutted and lots of larger rocks. Some good signage but not a lot of remains. The cemetery is almost non existent. The Springhouse is intact. The road is so rugged that you need to plan on taking lunch as the drive in and out will take some time. We did enjoy reliving the history and the beautiful area.

Vet rough road. Would not try without 4 wheel drive. Google maps led us to Hyatt Ranch. Not the way to go. Off of Hwy 24, take A019, there's a sign by the second cattle guard . That's the turn.
Melanie D — Google review
Fun experience, road to site is rough and mostly rutted with lots of softball size rocks. Don't trust GPS once on the trail, follow sign and don't give up. Has remnants of Adobe fort walls, rock stage stop walls, and a still functioning water spring well with preserved building, and an old cemetery. I wouldn't try this without an off road capable vehicle.
Steve P — Google review
Do not follow Google maps, it takes you to a private ranch. Take hwy26 to county road A019, at the second cattle guard, there is a wood sign on the left to the fort. This road is very rocky, only go if you have high clearance four-wheel drive. Gaia GPS shows the unmarked road.

Friendliest of people, I ONLY do my Hatch Chile business with these fine people since 1999/2000 when I would buy Chile from the wonderful grandmother that lived there. I remember one day I asked her how to prepare the dried chipotle peppers. She went into her home and brought out a bowl of salsa that she had made along with some chips for me to try. Her passion and love for Chile overflows in her son that owns and operates the store today. I highly recommend them!

Great chiles, super folks, fair prices. Bought 20lb of the xtra hot & they were xtra hot & wonderful. Can’t go wrong here. Again, the folks working here are great. We’ll definitely be back!Pro reminder from my husband who is a long time chile gardener: Chiles have a goodly amount of natural variation in spiciness. Growers/roasters can’t guarantee heat levels, it’s how it goes with a plant product. They supply chiles that usually have a specific heat level. Key word: usually. So don’t roast the roasters if the spice level ain’t on point. They do their best.

I purchased 40 lbs of Chile. I expedited the shipping paying the extra cost because it was going to PA. I mixed up the address’ and sent it to Albuquerque. It should have only taken at the most 2 days. It took at least 4. When I got the Chile most of it was rotten. Goodness knows how it would have arrived in PA. It’s the first time and last time I order from this business and I won’t be recommending anyone either. Only a refund on 10 lbs. The stems of the Chile were soggy. 🤢

UPDATE ON 9/8/21: I just re-visited the same store again with the same friendly, hard working owners. Please support the store and buy some of their great products. They had an unfortunate fire in the interior part of their store a few years ago and are still recovering. They also lost their pet bird in that fire, who I had "met" years ago. They're operating out of the exterior part of the store. Give them some special love.// I found this place on Hall Street and the store folks were so friendly. The chillies and spices are so reasonable and fresh. Get yourself down there and buy some. Makes great gifts too.

Love camping here. Ken, the Ranger is really pleasant, both Camp Hosts, Bob and Phil, are nice to me, and park is kept clean and is a gem of the NM State Parks system because of it's majestic views of the mountains and surrounding landscape. Hiking is pleasant and amenities are close by.

Good state park with hiking trails along the Rio Grande. Water is only in the river once they release it. Very clean campground and facilities. Lots of birds at the river.

Lovely desert campground. Only stayed here on night passing through but the campground was great. Cement pad, water and electricity, covered picnic table, dump station. Everything we needed for one night. There is a trail by the campground that will take you to the Rio Grande with a little swim area.Campground was nearly full but very quiet. Pretty surroundings with the mountains and river.

Great spot! Cute little Adobe shelters with picnic bench. Water. Large sites. Easy in and out. We're in a promaster and an SUV pulling a uhaul and we fit just fine.

If the visitor center is open, there's some friendly and very nice people in there. We had an issue with a camper, and they helped the best they could. The views are awesome, too.

Stayed here in late September when there was no water in the river. Stayed at site 14 which has a beautiful view but is the furthest from the showers. It was very well kept and the campground host was very kind. I took my dog with me and did have the issue of stickers and burs getting stuck to his paws and fur. Otherwise a great camping experience, peaceful and quiet.

It was so peaceful and absolutely loved the campground sites. The pictures that were on their site do not do it justice. Being at the dam was absolutely amazing as well! I am definitely remembering this place for the future.
Jamie M — Google review
Well maintained park with short walking trails that slate well marked and landscaped. Love that you can walk to rio grande and enjoy the dam. No shade but it was cooler than expected the week we were here. The host kept the sites well cleaned as soon as someone checked out.
Rita D — Google review
It's a great campground. The spots have nice level parking pads to park your rigs on. They have really nice walking trails. Also a nice playground for the kids. It's close to many attractions for day trips.
Angie T — Google review
This is fine if you decide to stay for a night on your way through town. But I wouldn't go here for a vacation. The matter of the fact is that the camping sites are quite packed together. And even if you can excuse that, there is a railroad track that goes right through the park no more than 20 feet from the campsites and it is ridiculously loud when the trains come through especially at night. The couple of nights that I stayed the train came through about three times throughout the night.
CunningHydra2161 — Google review
Great spot to spend a couple of weeks. Staff and host were awesome, and the facilities were well cared for. Just note that they close the gate at sunset, but they give you a code on your paperwork on the post at the sight with it.

Great park. Every site has a protected picnic shelter. Well done check in process... Our name was on our campsite. Shower facility was a bit of a distance from campsite but vault toilet nearby.

Very nice and clean state park. Creosote was blooming and smelled wonderful.

Nice quiet park for camping - until it's not. Spent about a week there in an rv, and all but 1 night were quiet. Then a huge crowd of people descended upon us, all staying in a single campsite, making noise all night long. I found it disappointing that they've done a lot of work to clean this park up and keep it up, only to have allowed the same thing to happen again.Would I go back? Probably, but not during tent camping season.Bonus: All rv sites have concrete pads!

Good choice for a trip to Leasburg Dam state park. The Dam and water were running fast due to recent rain. Trails marked and very easy hike. Loved the greenery and the water this time of year! Picnic tables, benches, grills, camping sites.

My daughter and I stopped for a short visit yesterday . The weather was hot, but we were able to take a small hike on a trail to a shady area and sit for a while. The Park has mainly secure trails for hiking. Spacious campsites, it's kept very clean, beautiful scenery of the mountains all around. This State Park is located in Radium Springs not far from Truth or Consequences, NM. If you're looking for a place to take a hike or camp and are in this area, stop by you will enjoy it, just as we did. 😊

Quiet and dark. Seasonal wind. Bathrooms are clean. Showers are awful. Clearly marked hiking paths. The vault toilets in Greasewood loop had no toilet paper. Never saw the hosts.

Great little state park. Very clean and well taken care of. The bathhouse and restrooms are very clean. Nice hiking trails. We did encounter a rattlesnake ,it was by the womens bathhouse. Apparently it’s a frequent visitor there. Needless to say I did not get a shower that night. I had to keep telling myself that I am the intruder here and not the snake. We can’t wait to come back here again

We stayed here 5 days in mid January. Very quiet campground with spacious sites to fit large rigs. Water and electric on reservable sites for $14. Some first come sites. Nice hiking trails all around campground. Clean shower and restrooms. Mountain View’s but can be very windy.

Essential visit the the quant square in historical Mesilla. The market in the park was nice, was able to get nice jewlery for my daughter and wife. Nice shops and restaurants all around, check it out.

We were traveling and visited the farmers / flea market on a Sunday morning in mid February.Vendors still setting up hour after opening. Low season? The big impact was churchie choir loud enough I couldn't have a conversation with a vendor. Parking is tough.

This place was very welcoming. I can see that the border crossed Mexico out here.Almost everyone here and the culture has Mexican and Native American roots! There is lots to see, and the food is authentic and spicy as it should be. The mountains are so beautiful. Lots of pecan trees can be seen, which is one of the main crops in this area of New Mexico.

We spent a couple of hours here on a Sunday morning before everything started. Church service was in progress and they had loud speaking broadcasting the service into the plaza where people can participate outdoor. Walked around the plaza filled with history. Wish we had more time to enjoy a meal at one of those restaurants there.

Nice historical area where you can learn about the history of the southwest and how New Mexico became part of the US. The plaza is part of a Historic District and is a national historic landmark. It's a nice spot to sit and relax. Billy the Kid was put on trial and sentenced to hang at the old County Courthouse which is now the corner gift shop. The Historic District is filled with tourist shops that includes a book store, chocolate shop, pecan store, and other specialty shops. There are many restaurants and a couple of wineries. Love the quaint architecture of the area. The Basilica of San Albino is across from the plaza and has been on existence since 1851.

Very cute little plaza! We went on a Sunday right after the church service got out. It was pretty hot but still enjoyable. There were vendors around the square on the sidewalks which it was fun to walk around and see all the talent. All the shops around the square were nice and the people were kind. I would definitely be back again!

Great spot to spend a day out by just walking around this historic plaza, it has different types of stores, restaurants, cafes, sweets, tea, gift shops, bookstore, gallery.... U may be able to find some really nice and unique items.

Had some time to spend so I went to Old Mesilla. I got some tea at the tea shop and went to confession and mass at the old church. I highly recommend both.I visited the parish bookstore and found they have a grotto in back with a statue of Mary, and they are installing a colundarium next to the grotto. The area is pleasent to walk around with plenty of shops and restaurants. Across the main road is a place that sells dried 🌶 among other things. I didn't stop there today and don't remember the name, unfortunately. But the red chilli sauce we made from their chillies turned out very well. The building looks like it's out of the old west complete with dirt floors.

Flea & Street Markets
The Farmers & Crafts Market of Las Cruces has been a staple in downtown Las Cruces for over 50 years, offering a vibrant display of the Mesilla Valley's culture. This iconic market takes place twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays, spanning seven blocks along Main Street.
This is such a cool experience and very dog friendly. I would advise to show up early specially if you want to buy fresh produce, that is the first thing that goes right away. I loved walking around and checking out the different vendors, but it was really nice to see tons of musicians throughout the street doing their thing. This is definitely an all ages activity kind of farmers market.

I love this market. The Green Munchkin has the best dog treats and microgreens. They even have microgreen dog treats. Great prices. The mushroom ladies and honey vendors are a must during your visit also. My husband really likes the steaks from the fresh beef vendor. Good atmosphere and a perfect way to spend your Saturday morning.
Daniel P — Google review
This was a large farmers market. Several blocks of vendors and food. A lot of handmade jewelry, pottery, paintings, photographs, just to name a few. Live music playing. Every vendor we spoke to was very nice. On this day, there was one vendor selling produce. It closes at 1pm, so get there early to take it all in.
Lemmie K — Google review
Very nice market with a lot of vendors. Not much for produce but decent food options. Some live entertainment also.
Vanessa B — Google review
This is one of the best farmers markets you will ever visit in the USA. It has something for everybody. Everything about it is perfect. I just wish in the winter It started a little later and went on till about 3pm, but in summer, you don’t want to be there much past 1pm as it starts to get very hot. Luckily, it opens early around 8am Saturdays are great as they close off the whole downtown Main Street so it’s very pedestrian friendly. While you’re in downtown Las Cruces, there’s some great cafés and a really nice art museum and cultural center so plan to be there a while if you’re visiting from out of town. When it gets hot visit some of the indoor places and Coas bookstore. There are musicians who rotate positions throughout the market help them out give them some cash, they are working hard. Also great food trucks. I love everything about this market. Dogs are allowed but their paws will get hot and they will need water and shade. So please take care of your K9 friends. There are lots of unique and handmade items which as far as I know is a requirement to be a participant in this market no mass produced stuff is allowed, though some of it may sneak in. But 99% of what you see here is handmade by the crafters and home grown food from small local farms.
Sara — Google review
We visited on a Saturday morning and it is a very large, clean, and organized market. Unfortunately, we were hoping for more of the Farmer's side of it and there were very few tables that were selling fruits and vegetables. We will return as there are many tables we did enjoy. Another great aspect of the market is the brick-and-mortar stores along the markets path were open and a great addition to the visit.

My husband and I take all of our visitors to the Farmers Market They are amazed by the size of the markwt and variety of items for sale. Our dog, Guido is also a fan and gets so excited to interact with the people and other dogs ❤️

It is the largest market I have visited. There is an excellent variety of vendors—lots of talent in the streets with an opportunity to enjoy the live array of music. I also found a couple of shops around the area with great handmade items. It's a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
Mariza V — Google review
The biggest farmers market I have attended. Has a lot of variety, mostly at reasonable prices; however some items in my opinion are set too high. Very enjoyable and definitely a place to visit.
Rodolfo R — Google review
Great little market downtown. Streets are closed for the vendors and people walking. Lots of food, arts, and farm stands
Sean G — Google review
This is a fun place to visit downtown with the family during the weekend. They shut down the road, and there are tons of food trucks and other really cool vendors set up. You can find some really unique and crafty things for sale, and sometimes there's live music.
Roman R — Google review
Lots of variety and friendly local vendors. Get some sun and fresh air while you mingle with the local community as they share their passions with you. There is a vendor there who converts EBT funds into tokens that can be used at most food vendors there. If I am not mistaken for every dollar exchanged you get two dollars in tokens. There are lots of colors, scents, tastes and sounds to be experienced as you saunter from one end of the downtown mall to the other. Last week there was a woman playing violin and about a block away two gentlemen, one with a guitar, the other singing. It also looked like someone was setting up on the stage to play for us all.All in all, it is one of the better things that we have here, being able to enjoy so many independent small business entrepreneurs at one time, reminds me of what the U.S.A. is all about. Please support this local venture. Most of all remember to, Keep Las Cruces Beautiful!

This is a great way to spend a Saturday morning! They have a little bit of everything and some really unique gift type items. I suggest checking out COAS Book Store and the History Museum while your shopping the Farmers Market.
William H — Google review
Good walk for a morning visit. Literally only one produce stand and it was not worth the effort. Mostly jewelry and trinkets. Long lines for kettle corn too. If you go for that, bring cash. I’ve seen people wait in 20 minute lines to be turned away because they don’t have cash.
Sally W — Google review
We were so excited to go to this farmers market after reading all the great reviews but terribly disappointed upon arrival. We attended on a Wednesday (July 2024) so maybe Saturday is the better day to go. There were only 6-8 vendors and only one had fresh produce (chilies, a few watermelons, onions, garlic, honey and cucumbers).
Sarah S — Google review
Local farmers from around New Mexico will be here each Saturday and Sunday from 8AM to 1PM.
Reem F — Google review
It's a pretty decent size market but a lot of the same stuff in the booths. It would be nice if there was more vendors with fruits and veggies like the many jewelry vendors there but we found the green tomatoes we were looking for
Nora C — Google review
The best Farmers Market around. Great variety of items for sale. Truly the best kettle corn every is Uncle Banjo’s Kettle Corn!!!There are hundreds of amazing vendors at this market with a variety of offerings from vegetables, breads and baked goods, earrings, art and more.Plan on spending the whole day here with the family as the also have various street artists and entertainment. Make sure to visit all the shops on main streets too.

Based on my various experiences here throughout the years, this is normally a great farmer's market. A great variety of items available. Different salsas to try and buy. Free parking nearby. Would recommend and would return.

This was fun I went on the Friday and I couldn't make it back on Saturday I went once before on a Saturday and it was much larger 10 times as large on Saturday as it was on Friday nevertheless I bought some homegrown vegetables from a garden and there was a man with his own wildflowers and it was just a great experience

We're in town from Oshkosh, WI visiting family who suggested we check out the Farmers Market as we're art and craft fans as well as the food one finds at a Farmers Market.Started at Organ Mountain Outfitters, that is a great store whose profits are partially shared feeding children and more. I love shopping local but it's always more enjoyable when the business shares it wealth locally as well. There was so much to see and do. I very much enjoyed the local musicians sharing their talents. There was a guitarist playing a sort of bluesy tune and a young man singing a beautiful Mexican melody in full dress. I'm sure he was singing about a lost love or 🤷♀️. It was lovely.Ate a breakfast burrito from Cocina Mexicana Express at the recommendation of a family member. Truly the BEST food truck food ever. If you haven't waited in his line for anything on his menu you're missing out. I will warn you, the portions are not small. I'm thinking about going again next weekend just to have this one more time before leaving town.Found a lot of great artisans sharing jewelry, clothing, paintings, the best and most affordable wax melts from Smelly Sam's (I think that's their name). They had scents I've never smelled before and I've been using a wax melting pot for years. It's the perfect size Market, not too big you don't enjoy and just enough to have something for everyone.

Great place to visit! Even if you're not a history buff, there's so much to see and appreciate. There's historians roaming around if you have any questions. There's A LOT of cool cars too! Highly recommend. It's about $15 per adult. Took just over an hour to experience the museum, however, we did not go outside as it was too cold. I regret not going sooner.

Took my son to a copilot flight and we booked flight simulator time. He had a blast!! The instructors were amazing!! The museum itself had a whole large hangar full of all kinds of aircraft and displays so we learned a lot too. Will definitely return!!!

This museum was much larger than I expected. I planned to stay for a could hours, but could have spent twice as long here. There are some neat planes, and if you are into vehicles or military stuff, you'd probably love this place. The old commercial airliner whose interior is open was fascinating. A little pricey and out of the way, but cool experience.

My family and I went this past weekend and it was such a fun and interesting museum. My dad was a recreational pilot growing up and I always remember hanging out around Santa Teresa as a kid. Back then the museum was not as nice and I am glad to see it alive again! The staff was super friendly and it was a great spot to have something to do when we visit El Paso! Highly recommend!

My wife and I have been to War Eagles 3 times now, and each time, we've loved it! They have an amazing selection of both foreign and domestic aircraft, all in fantastic condition (lots of them can still fly). One of the staff, Mr. Gus Hebrok made the entire experience even better with his thorough knowledge of the airplanes and cars, as well as the history pertaining to each one! Our favorite exhibit was the commercial DC3, fully restored as if ready for airline passengers today. Also, the P38 lightning was unreal. The paint and finish are just unbelievably beautiful. There has been at least one new aircraft exhibit every time we have gone. Being an army veteran, it was really cool to see the newer OH-58 Warrior and AH-64 Apache exhibits right next to each other. They regularly hold events, too, so make sure you ask about the next one when you go!

The staff was super friendly, they explained everything to us and had a game for visitors, there was a hidden knom in the museum and if you find it and take a pic you get a price. My kids loved it. The best part is the planes outside and they have an active airport, you can see planes take off and land there.

I arrived at noon on a Sunday. The location is easy to find, with a Love's nearby for lunch, a snack, or fuel. I received a military discount when entering. Staff is very friendly and informative, and I was given a map. The hangar provides space for a military band to practice, so there was some music on the far side of the hangar. The hangar is not air conditioned, but there are ceiling fans moving the air, so it was cooler than outside. Consider the weather/temperature forecast when planning a visit. You may encounter a volunteer, so feel free to ask questions if you have any. They are very knowledgeable and have plenty of flight experience outside of the museum. We were invited to tour a passenger aircraft simply for showing interest in it. There are some aircraft outdoors along with related military equipment and vehicles. Overall, it was a great experience worth repeating the next time I am in town.

I never expected so much quality and quantity of beautifully restored aircraft in this out of the way place. I restored antique planes for a good portion of my life (generally much older than WWII warbirds) and can appreciate the dedication and fine work done here as well as the rarity of some of these planes. I personally wanted to drool all over the beautiful black P-38. If I wasn't retired it would be an amazing place to work. They also have an excellent gift shop. Go there. You won't regret it.

This museum is filled to the max with historically significant artifacts. It's an awesome experience to see these planes, vehicles, and accessories up close. Many of them have safety stairs that allow an inside look at the cockpit and its instruments - an amazing experience. The museum itself is impressive in its size and cleanliness. The hangar is bright and open, although a bit warm. There's no dirt nor dust on the floor nor on any of the equipment. Cleanest museum I've ever been in. As good or better than the Smithsonian air and space on the mall or at Dulles. It's only missing a spaceship, lol.

This was a super fun place to visit. A large number of live farm animals make it an adventure to see. A lot of significant history on display to enjoy. Great indoor museum as well. Highly recommended.
Luke T — Google review
It was a quaint museum. There was no one there. I’d expected to see something interesting for kids, but the whole place was devoid of people and workers. There were no hands on exhibits except for checkers and the farm equipment was mostly a parking lot. The indoor play area was interesting.I expected a lot more about how life was lived on a ranch, but it was more about biographies and items recent enough to be seen outside a museum if you have family which are country. What you see in the photos is really all there is to see.

We loved it! So affordable and such a darling place! We loved seeing all the animals, walking around the museum areas, the dairy area, shopping at the mercantile and playing on the kids areas. Really family friendly here and we would come back. We spent 5 hours and my kids could have stayed longer but we stayed till closing time 🤣. We would recommend! My twins are 4 years old for reference.

It's a nice place to spend two or three hours. This is a New Mexico State museum. Admission is $7 for adults. Unknowingly, we arrived on a Wednesday, which happened to be Senior Citizen Day, and anyone over 60 gets free admission. The inside is pretty interesting. The outside ares are for live animals, but most areas don't have any animals. The animals that are available are a bit hard to see or picture because they're not near the fence line. It's a nice place to take children. There's a play area inside for small children. The gift shop is the usual high-priced gift shop. I took away one star because we did a lot of walking to only find a few sheep, and we saw a horse and a few cattle from the distance.

The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces is a fabulous venue and an amazing resource of historical knowledge and artifacts. I attended the Las Cruces Association of REALTORS - Southern New Mexico MLS 2025 officers installation banquet at the museum event room. This was a great place for us Realtors to honor our outbound officers and meet the incoming officers. The event also featured a variety of awards for some outstanding professionals. Realtor of the year, and affiliate member of the year to name a few. Back to the facility! The event room is actually quite large enough for a large gathering, and has a raised stage as well. Very beautiful as well. I would definitely recommend this venue for any medium to large events.

This is an interesting museum. The main gallery had many interesting facts and artifacts, me and my daughter spent most of our time there. Good expedition about the life of Billy the kid.But there were a few things that didn’t work or were closed. For example the kids room was closed for maintenance, which was disappointing, and the diary quiz in the dairy barn was out of order. Another thing that was disappointing was that the last time we were here there was a real cow in one part of the dairy barn, but this time there was only a fake plastic cow.In conclusion, this is a nice one time place to go to. If you’re ever in town, that can be interesting for any age, which might take about 2 hours.

I give this beautiful museum 5 plus stars simply because of there service and commitment to excellence. I took our 4 year old son and he enjoyed the animals and little kids area inside. From the host at the register to the young lady in the gift shop, excellent service. 8/1/24.Recommend take an umbrella or caps some water, Very hot out. Loved it and will definitely return.

Simply amazing a must see needs more marketingBUTThe staff was less than friendly. The two people behind the counter to pay in the lobby seemed to ignore as both delt with someone together while others waited without acknowledgement. The lady in the gift section was on the phone with clearly a friend talking about recent event and never spoke.

Very impressive musuem with lots to see and do. For only 7 dollars i felt like they could charge more for the experiences and sights you get to see. Friendly staff and super clean facilities inside and outside. Loved it here and you wont be disapointed if you come .

My husband and I go every chance we can just to walk the grounds and see the new events and things at the museum. Great place to take the family. Haven't met a person we didn't like yet! Most times we don't have to pay to walk around and look at things. We visit the farm animals, look at the antique farm equipment and pay a visit to the blacksmith. Other times we pay $5 to enter a special event. Not bad at all! The last event we attended there was $5 a carload. It was the 2018 Home Grown a New Mexico Food Show & Gift Market. LOVED it!

We had this on our itinerary before we got to Elpaso, however once we got there we were driving on the highway and saw a billboard reminding us of this Farm and Museum. This place is great for all ages, it is an active farm so it has the outdoor animal part, explaining what animals are what ( example, has like 10 kids of sheep), has a great exhibit on the cows and what they do with their milk. This place has a great and cute kids area as well. Lastly, they have many exhibit's how farming and life in NM used to look back in the olden times. If I'm back in the region I would not hesitate to stop by again.

An interesting place to visit. It seems to concentrate mostly on the immediate areas farm and ranch land history. I was surprised and intrigued to see a lot of information regarding the white sands missile range and it’s influence on the local area. There were also displays showing early Native American farming and building practices. Apparently there are a lot of outside displays also, but we felt the middle of the day was not a good time to explore those. It was sometimes a little difficult to find information regarding some of the displays, so if you’re interested, keep looking, information is there, just not always right by the display.

Amazing museum …. Dan provided a great tour of the property … immaculately designed, set up and cared for space … very interesting animals, history and look into NM ranch life. Highly recommend Thanks!

The Dripping Springs Natural Area offers well-maintained hiking trails that wind through striking rock formations and scrubland, leading past historic 1800s resort buildings and a spring enclosed by granite walls. This family-friendly destination features numerous benches along the route for rest breaks under shady trees. The informative visitor center is staffed by thorough rangers and clean facilities are available. While there is a $5 parking fee, visitors can expect a crowded scene on weekends.
This place is so beautiful! Park rangers were very friendly and helpful. Wildlife is abundant in the mornings. If you're into birdwatching, this is a perfect area. Dripping springs trail is a little difficult especially if you're out of shape like me, but, the views make it worth it.

Great trail 2.8 mile out and back with several destinations worthy of visiting and worthy of researching their history. On our walk there were three deer grazing no more than 20 ft from us that were not distracted by our presence. The A.B. Cox visitor center was hosted by a volunteer ranger providing great history, highlights and detail of displays provided within the compact center. A child might enjoy this facility, although find the trail too strenuous.

This area was absolutely beautiful. It was April 1, but the peaks were freshly snowcapped from a storm that morning. Simply beautiful. We opted to walk a loop around the rock formation instead of going to dripping springs. Really enjoyed the walk. Great views and some bouldering opportunities on the rock formation.

Nice hike for a half day trip. The paths are easy to follow and wide. The old buildings are very neat! There are bathrooms off the trail. We got to see a bunch of deer.

Perfect hike for family of four! We drove up from Ft Bliss and took our 2.5 year old and 12 month old. There is an incline on the way up to Dripping Springs but you’re on a gravel trail the entire time until right at the spring/mountain camp area. My husband pushed our double jogging stroller all the way up. Gotta be ready for a workout if you bring the stroller and definitely need’s to be a jogging stroller with the bike wheels. It’s doable but pack would be much easier (assuming your kids like packs…mine don’t so stroller is emotionally easier on me 🤣). Beautiful views and not very busy. No waterfall this time but was told it’s due to a severe drought. Still so worth it.

I really love and enjoyed the beauty of nature wen we came in this area. So amazing ,beautiful views of nature. You can do you’re trail in La Cueva for 1 and half miles back &port. Overlooking area you can see the down side of Las Cruces. Do next time we will come again bcoz were running out of time.. i will do another trail again in the side of the mountain. I saw a mule deer near wen we are living the La Cueva. I saw a beautiful barrel cactus with a flowers in both different colors. I saw many birds too…The humming birds is really cute❤️💕🥰

Dripping Springs is a great place for a walk. The trails are wide and the gravel is smooth on the first part of the Cueva Mine Trail and would be good for those who need easier terrain. The visitors center is lovely and there are hummingbird feeders outside where you can sit and watch nature do its thing. The volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable.Note: if you’re disabled you can get the National Parks All Access Pass at this location.

Great and beautiful hike..Actually many hikes but Dripping Springs is a nice 3 mile round trip hike. Beautiful area with dispersed camping all around. Tried to spot an Oryx..no luck.

$5.25, ample parking, people but not too many. Trail is 1.8 miles up. Old asthmatic lady made it! Check 1st as the springs are not always dripping if that is important. Excited to go back & explore the other trails!

Overall great hike to dripping springs but I was expecting a nice waterfall scenery once I reached it. It was literally a drip. Good morning hike don’t wait until later in the morning. They have shaded seating along the trail so it was good. Still disappointed in the water fall.

Beautiful area to hike but make sure you take enough water. Best time to go is after it has rained, waterfall was dry when I was there. There is more than one hiking trail

Beautiful hike with great views, and interesting destinations. The first part of the hike is pretty easy gravel road with a sturdy incline, no shade. Once you get to the end there is plenty of shade and picnic tables, and plenty to explore. Big parking lot, visitor center with maps and very nice ranger ( know the condition on the hike and status of the spring), bathroom and water. Fee is 5 $ or if you have National Park pass free.

Absolutely gorgeous. I have an injured foot so I didn't get to do much but I can't wait to go back for a hike when I'm able to. There is a visitors center, public restrooms, and there is a fee to be paid.

This is a National Monument. I did not know! Therefore, a visitor center, super helpful volunteers, big parking lot, clean bathroom. Cave trail was super cool. We were there end of! He day, lovely. Do not leave after sunset!! They will Ticket you!! The other trail up into the hills was super cool. Easy gravel path. We saw an oryx, very cool big animal! This trail was perfect weather in December, but I can imagine summer is awful...

This was a very fun and scenic trail : ) We saw some gorgeous deer walking parallel to us near the top, and the historic buildings were so cool to look at! There are benches throughout that allow you to slow down and take in the sights and the path itself isn't that hard to walk. It was a very great experience and I'd love to go again someday.

Fantastic hike. Very knowledgeable staff. Take your time and enjoy the views and the hike. It's worth going all the way to the end. We saw mule deer and tarantulas -- but didn't let that stop you. The path is wide enough for a four wheeler (which isn't allowed) or bikes. Easily can for three people across. Very impressive. That is all.

Park fee is $5 per vehicle but free for Military Gold Star Members. Staff is friendly and welcoming. There is no parking fee if you will not utilize the trail. Just let the staff at visitor center know.Restrooms are very clean and available near the visitor center.Dripping Springs is 1.5 miles uphill. The Cave is 0.9 miles one-way - Easy trail. The cave is nothing special but I would definitely recommend you to explore the other trails. The trails are steep so be careful coming back down. Please bring winter coat or hoodie because the weather can get pretty chilled very soon in later part of the day.You will definitely have good time.

Very interesting. Stop by and support them. There's a lot to learn there. Not to mention a view to gaze upon and enjoy. If hiking, please be prepared and be aware of your surroundings. Snakes and other animals that live out there don't want to be disturbed. Be careful obey all warning ⚠️ signs.

Wow! This place did not disappoint! And only for $5/ vehicle. Staff is friendly.Use the restroom near the visitors' center before because they only have an outhouse farther in the park. The hand dryer was freezing cold, but at least they have soap and running water.Dripping Springs is the most popular trail. The trail to the springs is about 1.5 miles going uphill. There is an outhouse restroom once you get there. When you get to the Boyd Sanatoriom, you can climb keep climbing up to a cliff then you can go even farther past the pool then climb up big boulders and keep climbing til you get up another cliff. That's as far as you can safely go. Be careful coming back down. It can get slippery because of the steepness. We spent about 3 hours exploring. We have children 7 and 10. They were wiped and hungry afterward. Bring snacks and plenty of water. Oh yeah, and bring some coats because it may get hot going up to the springs, but once you climb higher, it gets cold and 7 because you are in the shade.

Franklin Mountains State Park spans 24,247 acres of picturesque desert terrain which offers a range of outdoor activities such as rock climbing, hiking, camping and wildlife spotting. To celebrate the start of the new year, visitors can participate in the First Day Hike tradition by taking a guided tour of the Upper Sunset Trail in Tom Mays Unit. This trail is approximately 3 miles round trip and offers moderate difficulty with some steep inclines and declines along rocky sections.
I absolutely loved it. This was my first time there, and I'll be going back to visit more trails. I took the Apache Cave Trail this time, and it did not disappoint. Wasn't very difficult, although I wish people wouldn't leave their trash along the trail. Beautiful view, though!

I say wow...the most beautiful state park in the entire state so far for me. The landscape, picnic tables , restrooms are very clean. Everything are nice inside out. View of the mountain behind is a plus. Very relaxing. A must stop by place. The staff are awesome too. You can tell they love what they are doing. I wish we hike some trails but run out of time.

What a beautiful setting. We hiked to the Aztec caves -- and actually missed one right around the corner from the other two! What good balls we were. Ugg. The temperature was perfect for hiking, mid-40's to low-50's. We did trail C3 for the ascent and C4 to come back down. C3 is recommended to get to the caves, because there are a lot of switchbacks which made it easier. C4 is steeper, but wider. It took approximately 40 wonderful minutes to get to our destination and half that to get back to our vehicle. I would definitely do other of the numerous hikes in the area. That is all.

Unexpectedly awesome. I didn’t have any expectations after visiting other State Parks. Usually state parks are smaller and do not offer long hikes. We did Summit trail in morning and Aztec Cave trail in afternoon. Summit Trail had awesome 360 views of the whole town but the hike was somewhat Hard. It was hot but we started early morning so we got heat on the way back. After doing this trail our energy was low, so we decided on a shorter trail and chose Aztec Cave Trail, call it a mistake or call us lucky we had all trail by ourself, there was no one on the trail but this hike was way steeper though very short. We enjoyed both the trails. The staff at visitor center is awesome and very friendly.

Came here for a late morning hike on a Saturday. Stopped by the Visitors Center to pay for day access and pick-up some trail maps. We were short on time, so only did the new Aztec Caves Trail. Neither the Visitors Center or the trail were crowded. It was a quick 5 minute drive to the trailhead and we were on our way.The trail was probably a moderate level. There are times with a moderate incline with loose traction on the travel. Some of our party did need occasional breaks and help on some parts, but they all made it up and down. It was probably about 30 minutes each way.At the top, there's a nice little cave area with great views. I would recommend this trail for anyone with decent mobility.

Franklin Mountains State Park is an absolute treasure in the heart of the Texan desert. Nestled in the rugged, rocky terrain of El Paso, this park offers a diverse range of activities and breathtaking vistas that will leave you in awe.First and foremost, the hiking trails here are spectacular. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just looking for a casual stroll, there's something for everyone. The Ron Coleman Trail is a challenging but rewarding hike, offering panoramic views of the city below. If you prefer something more relaxed, the Nature Walk Trail is perfect for birdwatching and enjoying the desert's unique flora.Rock climbers will be in heaven here, with endless opportunities to test their skills on the park's rocky outcrops. The feeling of conquering those ancient mountains is truly exhilarating. What sets Franklin Mountains State Park apart is the tranquility it offers. Despite being close to the city, you can find peace and quiet here. The starry nights are simply mesmerizing, and the park rangers are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, making sure your visit is safe and enjoyable. The visitor center is a fantastic resource, offering information on the park's history, geology, and wildlife. It's a great place to start your journey and learn more about the area.Make sure to bring plenty of water and wear appropriate clothing, as the desert heat can be unforgiving. Also, note that some of the trails can be challenging, so proper footwear is essential. In summary, Franklin Mountains State Park is a hidden gem in the desert, offering outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, and adventure seekers an unforgettable experience. It's a must-visit if you're in the El Paso area, and it showcases the natural beauty and rugged charm of Texas.

Beautiful state park, great camp sites and trails. We really enjoyed our hike at the Upper Sunset Trail, it's a moderate hike. There are some DRY RV spots available. The bathrooms we saw did not have showers, I'm sure there are some on site, but you'll need to call and check. The roads are narrow so if you have a huge RV, I would call ahead.

Not a bad state park. Lots of camping space and lots of trails. The biggest drawback is there is no portable water in the park. Employees said they finished a well back in 2019 but have never had a pump installed. Water is a must if you're walking the trails in the park. Texas Parks and Wildlife should do better.

Hiking trails need better marking or park needs better maps of trails. Spent an extra hour coming off the mountain and ended up at a different parking area so the hike was extended. The views are fabulous.
Tanya B — Google review
Great trails, lots of beautiful views. We love Mundy's gap with views of both sides of the City. Some trails are down hill from the parking area and then you turn around and find yourself having to climb back up, pay attention to how far you have walked. With all the beautiful scenery the distance can get away from you and in the summertime the heat can be overwhelming after 9am. Be prepared, bring water.

I read that this is the largest urban park in the USA, larger than Central Park! We stayed there only one night in an RV dry site. Site was honestly quite challenging since is was positioned on a big slope, so no way we could level for the night. We ended up parked close to lower sunset trail (thanks to the kind ranger) and we got a great view of El Paso and sunset. We have boondocked in many places and done dry camping in other State Parks but there was usually a place to get water and to fill our RV tank on site but not at Franklin Mountains State Park. They have to truck water since there is no well. So fill up RV tank before coming! Otherwise a nice place to stop by and for just $20/night.

We had a fantastic hike on the Aztec Cave Trail with the dog. It's not a technical route at all, but a couple of steps required me to lift him up onto the next step as it was just too steep for him (45 lb. dog). Wide trail, plenty of parking and easy to get in and out of there. But what a great hike. We even got to see a Colorado tarantula! We will be back to explore the other trails very soon!!

Embarking on the Ron Coleman trail at Franklin State Park proved to be a rugged and challenging adventure. However, the overall experience was somewhat tempered by the trail's less-than-ideal maintenance. The path was strewn with numerous rocks and pebbles, posing an additional obstacle throughout the journey. Navigating through this uneven terrain demanded extra caution and attention to foot placement, detracting from the otherwise immersive hiking experience. Despite the trail's natural beauty and captivating scenery, the lack of proper maintenance somewhat diminished the enjoyment, as the focus shifted to negotiating the rocky terrain. Hikers should be prepared for a more strenuous trek due to the trail conditions, yet the unique challenges presented by Ron Coleman trail still offer a distinctive and memorable outdoor experience at Franklin State Park.

The Plaza Theatre, originally constructed in the 1930s and restored to its former glory in 2006, is a historic gem located in downtown El Paso. This National Historic Building of Significance offers free tours every Tuesday, allowing visitors to admire its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, mosaic-tiled floors, antique furniture, and a stunning design that creates the illusion of an outdoor courtyard under a starry painted ceiling.

First time here.Beautiful building with an erie vibe. Beetlejuice was a perfect match for the building.I was nearly late back to my seat from intermission. Bartenders were mixing drinks and opening wine, which means long waits. I wish they had a couple of express lines for just water or cokes. I had to buy a handful for my party. My suggestion is to skip the drinks and hydrate before the show and if your a big guy like me, get a walkway or front seat. My poor knees had to angle sideways. Very tight.

I saw Rob Schneider there a week ago, and I loved the show. However, I'm 6'1", and those seats are from when they built the place. AND let's say it was built for very short people back in the day. That's why I'm only giving it 3 stars 🌟

Loved every minute of the show, but the location? Well, I can’t complain much, except for the seats. If you’re big or tall, you’ll feel the pinch when people need to pass by—tiny seats with very little legroom. But hey, it’s part of the charm of this cozy little theater, I suppose. My mother is disabled, and their elevator wasn’t working for restroom access. Even when the staff led us to it, we stood there for a while before realizing it wasn’t moving at all. I had to edit the image to remove people from it and added that big planter

I really liked how the Plaza Theater 🎭 was so easy to get to. I have to admit that, although I'm not a huge fan of most parking structures in downtown, the parking structure right across from the theater was already somewhat better than most parking structures in downtown. It's a little tricky going uphill in the structure. But once you get to the floor where you want to park, there is plenty of parking space without feeling crammed 🙂! The Plaza Theater 🎭 itself is an old building. But it has really interesting architecture, exterior design and interior design that make it very nostalgic 😍! The ceiling is very celestial 🌙 🌌 , with a heavenly aura ☺️!It was my first time seeing 👀 a show there 😃! I watched "Mean Girls 💄 💅 👛 👠 " the musical 🎶 on Sat (4/6) for the matinee showing and absolutely ❤️ it 🥰! It really brought back wonderful memories ❤️ of the original 2004 movie 🎥 🍿 starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams 😆! The Broadway cast was absolutely spectacular 🤩! I purchased an orchestra seat ticket 🎫 for myself since I went solo, and I got to meet and chat with a super nice family 🙂 sitting next to me who have season tickets 🎫 to the Plaza 🎭 !I didn't really try any of the speciality drinks 🍹 🍸 or snacks 😋! But a lot of people were in line! I may try these on a future outing to the Plaza 🎭 because they have some exciting shows and concerts coming up later this year 😃!Thank you ❤️ for such a fantabulous 🤩 first time at the Plaza Theater 🎭, El Paso Live 🎸 🎹 🎶 😄🙌 ! I will definitely be back 🙂🙃!

Lovely venu with nineteenth century charm. Bathroom facilities are a bit limited, so be sure to use them before the show (a 20-mimute intermission isn't long enough for the line that forms for the ladies' room). The seating on the main orchestra floor has a good slope for viewing the stage. Chairs are a good size and were plenty big for my 4XL backside. This was our first time visiting the Plaza Theatre, and we'll definitely want to come again.

My biggest complaint is the seats are extremely small. If you are a bigger person they are not kind or forgiving. Even a small in-width person is still going to be near on top of the people next to them. The bathroom is in the basement, which is odd. Also, there are stairs everywhere, but I believe it is wheelchair accessible still. They have drinks, beer, and a few snacks.

I paid $200 for a show to treat myself, I arrived early, dressed according to their dress ode requirements "evening attire". They made me walk around the entire building in hills after a very long walk from the parking lot to the entrance (they should definitely write "comfortable walking shoes in this dress code!) then made me miss the first part of the show to demand my soldier husband who's in training be there (even though I bought the ticket myself, not sure how his name which is on my ID got there) clearly they've never seen a military ID in this "military town". So I ended up standing in hills more... A lit more.... They finally let us in & they employee that I asked for help to find my seat took my ticket, ignored me & led someone else until they started the next part & I had to stand longer in hills until it was over! Finally found my seat, & the elevation is so bad, that the guy infront of me's hat blocked the entire stage! Seriously, don't they build for people of all heights? It's the most expansive ticket very close to the stage, & I can't see because it's so flat! Huge waste of money! I'm going through too much, & decided to treat myself to a tinny break, & do something nice for the first time in so many years... All I got is sore feet & embraced that I obeyed their dress code. The show was incredible! But they're international, I can go see them somewhere else if I really want to in the future. The overall experience is very disappointing! Honestly, if their dress code had prepared me saying "parking is far from the door, wear comfortable walking shoes" then I would have had a wonderful experience! Amazing how one very painful thing can destroy your evening before it even started

Caution, we bought tickets for Aladdin not using the map and we weren't seated together, they were on opposite ends. Please use the map! Also staff was super nice and helped fixed the issue even with a sold out show. Our night wasn't looking too good, but one specific usher helped us out, wish I got her named because the first four ushers weren't that great or nice. The last employees we spoke to were understanding and helped find us a solution.

We watched Les Mis US tour performance here. It is an incredible show with an amazing tour company. However, regarding the theater experience, it is not so great. So the 2 star rating is for the teater. The worst part of the experience is that the theater keeps letting late people in during the first half hour of the show. This not only disturbs the audience, but more importantly disrespects the performers.Other than that, it is a cool theater that shows it's history and age. The seats are very narrow in modern theater standards. The floor is very flat, so your view is blocked from the waist down by mostly bald heads, even when we were sitting in Row A.

Wyler Aerial Tramway is an aerial cable car located on the eastern side of the Franklin Mountains in El Paso, Texas. Visitors can take gondolas to and from Ranger Peak and explore the nearly 200,000 acres of rock formations. The experience includes a gift shop, restrooms, and viewing platforms at the mountain peak. Once at the top, visitors have the option to enjoy sightseeing or embark on a hike along a trail above the desert sky.
Great place in El Paso Texas... You will love this experience! Once you are taken up the mountain, you have the option of staying and doing some sightseeing...or if you are up to it!... an awesome hike! They have access to a trail way above the desert sky... It's beautiful up here. We went early since it takes about 10-15 mins to load everyone in and take them up in groups of 6-8 depending. You could have a small picnic since the wind up there does not really allow for a full picnic. The trip up is pretty awesome! My daughter was a little scared but once we got up there, she absolutely loved it! Oh and take some money, they have a gift shop at the top. I can't believe that I grew up in El Paso and I never visited this park before. Parking is free but limited. Restrooms are clean. You do have the option to just hike for the day and I believe that it's free. You can see all of El Paso, parts of New Mexico and Juarez!

This is such a fun activity for a weekend adventure. I've been on it twice and both times I was just as impressed with the mechanics of the tramway and enthralled with the views at the top. The ascent is around 900ft with the gondola moving at a speed of, I believe, 9mph so it's nothing extreme. This is definitely a must if you have visitors from out of town. Just, overall, a lot of fun.

The line can be a little but it's worth the wait. Smooth ride on the tram. Beautiful mountain scenery. Very nice view of El Paso, Ciudad Juarez (Mexico), and New Mexico. Will visit again next time I'm in El Paso.

Great and cheap way to get to see all of El Paso and beyond. 360° view at the top with maps that point out all the different landmarks. We went on a Saturday evening and no one was there, but we were told it does get insanely crowded when deployments are about to head out from Fort Bliss and families are visiting.

Hands down an El Paso must. Very special views from this place. It's only open on weekends and I recommend sunrise or sunset to beat the crowds. It's much colder at the top so bring a jacket!

Beautiful! I live in KC and every time I go to El Paso, this place was always closed! It was either due to rain or snow. However, this was a wonderful experience going up the mountain on the tram. The Park Ranger was very informative and made it a pleasant ride. We went on a sunny winter day and it was way colder up on the mountain. There’s hiking trails, awesome scenic views overlooking all of El Paso and Juarez, Mx. Must see if you’re in El Paso!

A must for native El Pasoans or those new to the area. Gives great views of nearly the entire city, Mexico, and New Mexico without the need for hiking (unless you want to). There's plenty of space on the viewing platform; I never had to fight for viewing space. Unfortunately, the gondolas lack any kind of air conditioning, so expect the four-minute ride to be stuffy. There's no running water at the top either (but there is a bathroom) so bring plenty of bottled water unless you want to purchase some at the gift shop.

The El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens is a 35-acre park that houses over 220 African, American, and Asian species in natural habitat replicas. Families can enjoy exploring exhibits such as Animals of Africa, Animals of Asia, and Animals of the Americas. The zoo offers Zoo Adventure Programs for both children and adults, along with daily animal encounters featuring sea lions, eagles, monkeys, and more. Additionally, visitors can enjoy family-friendly attractions like a treehouse playground and a water play area.
Went early midday on a Saturday. We had to get in line to buy tickets but it took 3 minutes to go in. The prices are not bad at all. I was expecting it to be little more expensive.Although, it was somewhat packed, it was comfortable to walk around and take pictures. To walk the whole zoo took us about 2 hours. A considerable amount of exhibits were not active/animals not in. However, we enjoyed our afternoon. When finalizing around 3 PM, the zoo was very crowded and hard to walk by.

Beautifu small zoo some parts were under construction still. Loved it but got my boots sticky of the pavement tar stuff. But regardless, I loved the animals. Tiger was my favorite she was sweet and came up to the window.

This is a small zoo. Some of the animal displays were closed due to the recent rain. You can bring a bag lunch, and the place is very kid friendly with the splash pads and the dippin dots. There is a cat adoption center that allows you to pet the cats even if you are not ready to adopt. There is plenty of parking and a cute little gift shop. Overall, it was a good place to stroll around.

This zoo has many animals to see. From zebras to birds and many more. This zoo is big, you can send here easily from 1-3 hours depending the activities you choose. They also have a train that can take you throughout the zoo to see the animals. There is a gift shop available to buy things and souvenirs for yourself as a memory. This is a great place for any age and any person who wants to see animals.

We had a great visit. The El Paso Zoo is very nice for a smaller zoo. It has plenty of wildlife including a lion, tiger, monkeys, and beautiful giraffes. Lots of places to sit and rest in the shade, a splash pad and playground for the kids.
MJ N — Google review
We came to visit our family and decided to try the zoo, since there’s not very many things to do here in El paso with little kids, we thought it was going to be great and memorable for the kids. Before coming saw very many good reviews, but once we got there to our surprise the place was very run down, dirty, some exhibits were empty , you could tell the animals were very neglected, the windows were dirty and some of them foggy you couldn’t see the exhibits, the water in the sea lions’ tank was a nasty green color you could barely see the poor animal there swimming in nasty green water. The very few stations with hand sanitizer were empty, everything costs money, there’s very few concessions places so you might get hungry during the trip, be prepared and better pack your own snacks! The only good thing is that there’s lots of shade and the playground area is very fun for little kids. They need to do something, this place has lots of potential, they just have neglected it so much!

I don't understand how nobody is talking about the conditions of the water in almost all the exhibits. Water looks disgusting and it smelled everywhere you passed by. Very sad to see, even the koi in such terrible water conditions. The aviaries had almost no birds around. They closed the Carousel at around 3:30pm and didn't even try to let our kids ride when we got there before the "last" ride ended. The food, the merchandise, the ride were all very expensive. The glas, where you try to see some of the animals through, like the one where the penguins are located, was so dirty you could barely see them. Not everything is terrible though. They had a splash pad and the treehouse playground were great for the kids. The cat adoption location was great as well. Please, fix the water conditions of these animals.

I spent over 2 hours here. There was lots of animals, beautiful plants, lots of signage to read. It was a great environment, and lots to see and do. Prices were not bad either. Would definitely go again. I liked the different continent zones and themes going too.

It gets 3 stars because most of the animals are put up or hidden, also because it's dirty, it's like they forgot about the sea lions it's sad ( I'm not talking about the green water )😔. But overall it is fun!, it would be much funner if it was actually clean and they had more animals out. But they never ever do and I've been here multiple times. Also they should definitely get more food spots for quick snacks/drinks, I know it's a small zoo but they could add a drink stand or two. Also I was very disappointed going into the walk in bird cage, more than half of them were gone, more like 90% was gone.
Juni ( — Google review
It was enough to see without being too overwhelmed. My son loved to splash pad. He was able to cool off for a few then enjoy the rest of the zoo.

My wife and I had a great time. We have a members pass which allows us to go anytime. Each time we walk around and enjoy looking at all the animals. We can’t wait for the penguins that should be arriving Dec 2023. Highly recommend for all ages.

The El Paso zoo and Botanical Gardens was a huge successful family visit. This was our 1st time visiting since we are new to the area. The zoo exceeded my expectations, especially because my family really enjoyed it from the time they opened until they closed. We will be visiting again, hopefully they bring more wild animals and fill every cage. Oh yeah, please get the train going so my little ones can ride it.
Daniel G — Google review
Really enjoyed. However, I would recommend going early, as the day gets warmer the more the animals take shelter or hide in shaded areas. We still got to see plenty of animals, but it was definitely hot.

I always defended our zoo, but having over 50% closed and changing full price is not right. I hope all renovations are worth it. The unicorn and the penguins are cool, pero come on. 10/ 2024.

We've always love the zoo! There are so many new things for kids of all ages! For a smaller city zoo, the attention to detail and the engagement activities for visitors is really incredible. Plus, the zoo is part of a conservation program that helps endangered species! And if you buy an annual membership, it's even better because you can bring a friend with every visit! So it's a win win!

Where to begin with this.. the highlight of the WHOLE visit was potentially the penguins.1. The exhibits, majority, were "open," but I only saw the following animals: zebras, mountain lions, orangutans, the aviary, wolves, penguins, sea lions, and a bunch of deer.2. The majority of the exhibits do not have the animals available to see, I got there at 2:15 PM, which means most animals should still be visible? Wrong. Only the ones above.3. The animals, they seem neglected, the ones that I could see, there is nothing for them be stimulated by.4. The sea lions, could someone please explain why their tank is all green? The female sea lions was at the trying to play, but she seemed so bored. The male sea lion was only at the "cascade" they had only 1 ball to play with.5. The penguins seemed great, but really, there's nothing much to see.6. Around 3:15 PM I was going to the reptile exhibit just to find out that that was closed as well. Now the food..The food is overly priced, the cheeseburger. It was great, but I was told they do not have any mayo in the entire zoo (no reason just wanted mayo on the burger).Prices $13 for a cheeseburger with friesFries $7 for a "basket" of friesSeems dumb right? But I spent $53 dollars in food, and honestly? It's not worth it in any way, shape, or form.Overall, I would not recommend going to the zoo unless you like to see neglected and bored animals.. I feel like if I would have been told we only have 1/4 of our exhibit available to see I would have just gone elsewhere.I genuinely feel like it was a waste of time and even more precisely money. There were tiny flamingo looking birds though!

Very disappointed with our trip to the zoo. The show in the amphitheater was just two zoo people talking about a macaw and a horned owl. Large crowds of people just started leaving the "show." Then, the sea lion didn't come out of the water for check-ups. The rhino event was just a zoo person throwing food to the rhino in the water. The rhino was unexpectedly cute! No one even showed up to present the show at the meerkat. Again, large crowd with no show. Luckily, one little meerkat jumped up by the windows for pictures. We went early before it got too hot with hopes of seeing more animals, but very few were out to see. All of the concessions like Dippin Dots, slushees, etc. were not open. It is sad to see the decline in our city zoo.
Magoffin 1 — Google review
My family and I hadn’t been to the zoo in a while. We had membership, but there’s been some changes involving the city’s support so those are on hold for now. Only daily tickets are available for purchase at the gate and nowhere else. Most of the animals were out today but many were not. It would be nice to have an update on which animals will be unavailable on their website to give people the heads up.On a positive note, we finally got to see the new penguin exhibit and the new rhinoceros!!! Seeing both at our zoo was awesome!!! My family enjoyed our time at the zoo, but unfortunately, they were closing earlier than I’m used to (3pm). I wasn’t aware of the hours before since I was a member and went whenever I could. They’re closed Mondays and Tuesdays. If you plan on going, please take note the times of operation and that tickets must be purchased at the entrance. Also, until the negotiations are done with, if you do go, please save your ticket to put towards your membership purchase later one. (It was posted online).

I always hear people complain about how the exhibits are closed. Fortunately, that was not the case for my family and I. We arrived upon opening, and all the animals were out. We enjoyed the new exhibits of the rhino and the penguins. We got to enjoy the baby giraffe and orangutan. We also got to see the new Kamodo Dragon. Although some exhibits were closed, I can see the zoo improving and working hard to entertain the public. Kudos to El Paso Zoo. 👏

Ugh this zoo really broke my heart especially since this is my home town and I brought my kids and boyfriend since they had never been and to be honest I was so embarrassed and disappointed at how the zoo look and the animals just looked so unhappy and crammed. The fact that a lot of the plants used to recreate the animals/insects/ reptile’s environment were all FAKE, there were empty cardboard boxes in the lions sanctuary and others. The giraffes have plain branches hanging with no leaves (what the heck is that about) and the seals and penguin water was GREEN! So disgusted and heartbroken that this is the environment that these wildlife animals are living in. They are so vulnerable and have no choice but to be stuck there. 💔

If you are not military assigned to base or civilian working on base, you will only get to see the museum and the mountains. You will also have to go through a background check to get a pass to do that. You must have a TSA valid ID. If you have wants and warrants out for your arrest, I wouldn't take the chance. They are serious about security. The museum is awesome. They have all kinds of rockets and rocket launchers. Fun history trip.

This post relates to the security rather than the museum ( I have been there before and it is great). To get to the museum, you must go through the Security Centre, which had a 25 minute line up; Although the museum stated it was open (through a text conversation minutes earlier, and I also asked a family that was leaving the site) the security office refused us entry due to the museum “being closed”: Conflicting information between the two. The security office had one person that was helpful and apologetic for the conflicting information, while the other was just plain rude. If you have time to deal with such issues, I would recommend, but be prepared to be turned away, seemingly at the whim of the security office. I would like to reiterate that the museum itself is worth the visit and this regards the security aspect only.

Excellent displays in a confusing arrangement. Good historical information a bit on natives and old wars, a lot on nuclear weapons. On arrival we were informed we couldn't drive up, so no vehicle info needed!Don't believe Google directing you to a southern gate. Use only the LA Cruces gate off hwy 70!The museum door said closed but several folks were going in and out.All very disorganized!

Well done! For such a small museum, there is loads of information, beautiful exhibits and in-depth history lessons. I am amazed at how they fit so much information into that little building, it’s beautiful. The exterior missile park is also incredibly well done. Many of the plaques need to be re-created as they are cracked and peeling and difficult to read, but other than that, it was an extraordinary experience and appreciate everything that went into its creation.By the way, the women’s bathroom light fixture seems like it’s going to fall onto someone’s headed any moment, I’m hoping you guys are aware of the issue and have it under control 🥰If you go, bring some cash for a donation. There is no entrance fee.

Very interesting stop. You must check in with the office, show your drivers license and have a photo taken. Then you are permitted to walk through the gates following the sidewalk to the museum which is indoors. There is also a viewing area outside with all sorts of missiles and planes to look at. The reason for 4 stars is ALL of the bathrooms were out of order!

The White Sands Missile Range Museum offers a fascinating look into the history of space exploration, missile testing, and military technology. Located on an active military base, the museum provides a unique blend of military history and scientific advancements. The outdoor exhibit features an impressive collection of missiles and rockets, allowing visitors to see these massive pieces of technology up close. Inside the museum, you'll find informative displays detailing the role White Sands played in the development of missile systems and the early space race. The museum does a great job of highlighting the significance of this area in both World War II and the Cold War, and it’s a must-visit for anyone interested in military history or aerospace technology. While the museum is relatively small, it’s packed with interesting artifacts and well-curated exhibits. Be sure to bring a photo ID, as security checks are required for entry due to its location on an active military base. It's an educational and eye-opening experience for visitors of all ages!

Great free museum! The missile park outside was epic and informative. The museum has lots of information and a good variety of displays. Not much hands on for kids, but our six year old was still engaged the entire time we were here. You have to stop and get a quick background check, so bring IDs for all adults.

Very expansive indoor museum as well as a paved outdoor museum with information at each stop. Must register at the gate, but it is open to the public.

Brilliant museum covering the history of the US missile programs as well as the history of this region of the country. Any military enthusiasts will really enjoy this experience. Kids also enjoy looking at the missiles but they might not enjoy the indoor museum as much

The open walk around Missile Museum shows the journey of missile technology from one if the earliest ones to 1990s. Great for kids with curiosity of science.

Park just before the gate and present your driver’s license, social security number along with a picture to get approval to go to the missile park. It is located to the left which you must access by a walkway. The museum is closed, but an array of missiles are located just behind. A note of caution: Photos can only be taken at the park and under no circumstances can you take pics of the staffers.

Enjoyed seeing all the outside missiles, there was a lot of history to see. The inside museum was closed today at 2, would have enjoyed seeing that. Had a great visit.

We are german tourists on our New Mexico/Texas roadtrip and loved visiting this museum. At the entrance we took part in a military background check which was quite exciting but we passed the check 😁 It took us only 15 minutes. The museum was very interesting with many many information and great displays. The highlight was the spectacular rocket/missile park. Stunning show! Thanks a lot to the US Air Force for your awesome hospitality!
